A clear shield is best at night in fact I would say necessary but keep in mind the tinted shield is not always desirable on a bright sunny day either. I found myself always flipping it up when charging into deep shade in corners when it was very sunny out, I was not a bit comfortable not being able to clearly see the road surface in the shady corners to see what might be on it. Give some thought to one of the helmets that come with a clear full shield and a built in sunshield that can be quickly flipped up and down, very convenient.

I wear a Scorpion Exo 500 and it has the internal sun visor. I love it because I leave the clear shield on and just flip the sun visor up or down depending on if I need it or not.

I have the Shark Evoline 3, I like it because when my brain starts to cook in that full face, I just flip the chin bar up and over and it becomes a DOT approved 3/4 helmet. Sorry for the "Big" pic...
