2007 vs 2008 Monster 695? and Seat Height

#1 Unread post by Brackstone »

Hi All,

As some of you may have read I was thinking about getting an Aprilia Shiver. Today I had my bike serviced and there was a Ducati Dealership nearby. I sat on a 2007 Monster 695 and it felt GREAT. I can flat foot the bike completely, something I can't do on the suzuki sport bikes I sat on.

I'm still thinking about giving the shiver a try first but it's almost 2 inches taller. I don't know how much of a difference that will make. Does anyone out there ride with a bike that they can't put their feet down flat at a stop?

The Monster is red (yay) and they said since it was a 2007 they would work with me on the price.

My question is does anyone know of any difference between the 2007 and 2008? The saleslady said there was no difference, but I don't trust sales people.

I'm doing some googling and I haven't turned up anything yet!

Thanks Everyone!

They are keeping the 695 around for another year but for 2008 there is a Monster 696 which will ultimately supercede it. As a Monster owner I am taking a while to get "used to" the new looks however. Should be a much improved performer having about the same output as the old 800.

All the specs are at www.Ducati.com

That Aprilia is damned tempting though.....

Yeah I know the Aprilia looks really nice. I just get nervous about the seat height.

I'd love to have the 696 over the 695 but I'm thinking getting this 2007 Model they are trying to get off the lot PLUS the fact that it's Winter I think should get a really good deal.

I'm going back on Saturday to see what she says.

The two bikes I keep eyeballing for my return to the States. The seat height of the Shiver is daunting. Although, nothing a good shave couldn't fix if you're close. Go to AF1 Racing forum and there are guys there with Shivers ride reports and pics.

As for the 696, I just read an article in a mag and it looks like I could fit the bill too. As per usual advice, go sit on both. Hopefully I'll stop by AF1 on this trip home to see first hand both the Shiver and the Mana (cross my fingers one is there!).

Mmmm, I've got my eye on the 696. I looks like it will have the lowest seat height and lowest weight of any of the sport standards in that class. Just what I need...

It's funny you mention that :)

I went to the dealer today and I expressed some of my concerns.

I didn't like the headlight and wanted a different style and the pipes are too low for me, I was afraid I'd drag them through turns. She told me that to replace all that stuff it would cost from $1,500 to $2,000.

I told her I'd rather have the 696 :)

So I put my deposit down, yay!

They waived something they called the "Frieght and whatever" fee which was like $400. Cause I pre-ordered.
