Motorcycle Jacket for Hawaii

#1 Unread post by lukem5 »

hey I live in hawaii, and regarding heat i will just say that I would feel more than comfortable riding without a shirt on around here. Of course im concerned about safety, and I would like a jacket that is very breathable yet protective at the same time.

I am basically looking for a good jacket for relatively hot weather, I don't want to get on my motorcycle and be in a sweaty mess after each ride. Thank you very much for any help in advance.

and I almost forgot to mention, I would like it if it was (somewhat) waterproof as well, seeing that it rains around here sometimes.

Look for a good mesh style jacket with a waterproof liner.

Of the mesh jackets I've tried, my Olympia Air Glide affords the most air flow.

You're going to sweat in anything, even a t-shirt. You assume more risk in a t-shirt, but knowing what heat + humidity feels like, I could hardly blame you...

A mesh jacket is awesome for riding in the heat. Just carry a waterproof windbreaker with you to put on over your mesh in case it rains.

I live in a pretty hot and humid place too, and I'm thinking of getting one of these http://motoport.blogspot.com/

Anyway, I'd still recommend a mesh jacket over just a t-shirt for reasons aside from protection. A mesh jacket keeps the sweat on you longer without trapping it in, so you benefit more from evaporative cooling. Plus, the mesh helps keep you from getting sunburned.

I can attest that this is incorrect. The sun still gets through the mesh to your skin. I found that out when I went to Arizona and Mexico two years ago. T-shirt and mesh jacket and I still got a bit burned on my arms.

I wear a teknic jacket that has a removable liner but it also has "zippers" to allow air flow into my body. Still gets hot when your not moving though.

Gosh are motorcycle jackets really that bad? I was wondering why I saw so many ppl riding around here with nothing but an aloha shirt and jeans.

Does mesh give you adequate protection?

thanks for all the help so far guys!!!

true it only gets to 90 degrees with 100% humidty about 2-3 weeks of the summer up here. Occasionaly we get over 100 degrees with 100% humidity but that would be like 3 summers ago where we had 30 90 upper 90 degree days and like 12 100 degree days with close to 100% humidity. I would MUCH rather have dry heat like Texas has lol.

Gets hot in SA too. I wear a lycra sun block long sleeved shirt under my leathers and this just wicks the moisture away.

I would rather sweat than bleed.
