For you Brits/Canadians
Hey guys, got a question for you!
Alright, here's the basic problem...
My sister wants to get into riding. She likes the looks of the CBR600 RR and is too vain to realize safety before looks...
I personally won't let her have anything over a 500 as a first bike.
So I decided we can compromise... Restrictor plates!
Now as for the US, no one wants to restrict a bike, everyone wants more power! So my question for you is how do I find restrictor plates for a CBR600RR?
Granted I can install them pretty easily, so I just need to know where to find them/how much they'd cost, stuff like that...
Any help you can provide would be appreciated!

First, talk her into an F4i if you can. The steering isn't as sharp, nor are the brakes. lol, don't bother with a plate. Just make the throttle cable longer so she can't open it up all the way!

Do the opposite of what it says at step 16. epoxy some pieces of plastic around the hole so it gets less air. Now dyno tune for as little power as possible using a PC3USB
Or maybe something that doesn't require epoxy. This is link to bike bandit schematic for the intake of a 2003 600RR. See Parts 3 and 4? And how they attach to part 2? I'd fab up some sort of gasket to go between the air cleaner and the funnels, except have the ID of the gasket opening be smaller than the ID of the funnels.
Or a HUGE front sprocket?
I hope the New England idea is close enough.

Make her do it the hard way.
Buy all the gear first
Then do courses on a hired bike
then track days on their bikes
then buy bike.
If this fails try a slap up side the head and a trip to Stephany Morrow's web site.

I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

Trust me guys, already tried most things... This is the same girl who bought her ex an 04 GSXR 600 and was convinced she wanted to learn on it...
Fortunately for me it was stolen... The first and probably last time I've ever been happy a bike was stolen.
Anyway, Geoff, I've already tried the F4i thing...
And Paul, she knows about her, I have that girl on my myspace friends list...
Ninja, I may just do that... not a bad idea with a longer throttle cable!

Damned if I know. We don't have them up here in the Great White North, either.Wrider wrote:So my question for you is how do I find restrictor plates for a CBR600RR?
However, I do know that restrictor plates were fitted to bikes sold in Germany back in the late 80's to cap output at 100HP, but I'm not sure if they're still doing that today. But restrictor plates are a very poor substitute for proper rider training and gear, IMO, and you should be trying to talk her into that instead.

Don't get me wrong Gummi, she's also getting that. She's going through the same MSF class I did when I first started riding. She also already has a full-face helmet, jacket, and boots and such.Gummiente wrote:But restrictor plates are a very poor substitute for proper rider training and gear, IMO, and you should be trying to talk her into that instead.
And as for you NinjaGeoff... I know the general whereabouts of where you live and what you drive!!!

As Gummy mentioned (I still remember his Ural sidecar in the snow!) we don't use restrictor plates in Canada.
I would recommend going on a British forum and ask about restricting a CBR600RR to 33BHP. Try Visor Down. As I recall, they don't recommend restricting because it changes the characteristics of the bike. They usually recommend buying a smaller bike. Shipping a small restrictor kit from Britain would not be very expensive.
