Back after a long time lurking! (new bike)

#1 Unread post by DivideOverflow »

I haven't been very active in the past year or so. I lurk every now and then, but for the most part have been ignoring forums.

My Z1000 is a great bike, but just not as great for 2-up as I'd like. So I'm selling it. I just bought a new 2008 BMW K1200S. I must say, this bike is awesome! I remember sapaul posting pictures of his all the time, and I went back and read a lot of his posts about it.

This thing just glides into corners, handles 2-up superbly, has great ergos, great cornering clearance, and has a boatload of power!

Pictures (my mom and brother's cruisers in the last picture):

Ahh, you just waited till you got your new toy so you can show it off in the forum

Nice bike, any plans on saddle bags? I noticed your neighbor has a Porsche 944 in the background. Time to race him with your beemer.

Glad to see you came back around. Nice looking bike for sure. And who would've thought that you could pull off a gray and yellow paint scheme? Looks good.

I've been lurking the forum for a little while again, but I haven't been on the internet as much as I used to. And yes, I just couldn't contain my excitement, and had to share it with everyone!

I'm mounting a givi topcase via SW Motech rack on the back. My girlfriend prefers something to lean back against. I'm going to pass on the saddlebags for the moment. I've already spent enough money this year.

Oh, and his 944 wouldn't have a chance. Unless we raced before I'm out of break-in, and was forced to stick to 6000rpms.. but even then, I think I'd still have the top end advantage.

I've been in third gear a couple of times so far!! Of course it was on the bottom end of 3rd, on the highway, and I might have been speeding.

Ahh yes, the 100mph in 3rd gear story and it seems you have confirmed it for us.

It must be tough with a family that rides, is you're brother itching to get his hands on your beemer? From the picture you broke tradition and got a sport bike instead of a cruiser.

It actually does 105mph in 2nd gear, about 125mph in 3rd, and so on.. tops out between 173 to 175mph from what I've read.

Well, I was the first to get my motorcycle license. I started on a 250cc cruiser and worked my way through quite a few bikes (listed in my sig). Those cruisers are my brother and mother's first bikes. We made sure to get them something good to start on.

My Brother started on the M50, and now my mom is riding the M50 more than she rides her Savage. So my brother is going to fix up the 79 KZ650 we have and ride that. He wants to eventually get a Ducati Monster or something like that.

You can bet that he wants to ride my bmw, but no way in hell that's happening! I'm coming off a 120hp bike and the BMW still feels like a rocketship. Coming off a 40hp cruiser, I think he needs some more intermediate practice before jumping up to a bike like this... it definitely is for experienced riders.
