Gymkhana Videos - Capt Crash plz Elaborate

#1 Unread post by Brackstone »

I took this discussion out of beginners thread because I didn't want it to be lost in there.

Can you please tell me why these guys are dropping their bikes all the time? I feel like I execute those moves on a daily basis without dropping or are those turns a lot tighter than they appear?

I'm not sure what they are teaching at that school. Not like I'm an expert or anything, but most of the time it seems like they are pulling either the clutch or the front brake or both when they are committed to the turn.

Seems like if they didn't do that most of the time they would have made those turns. They do seem pretty tight, but given the slow speeds should be do-able.

Yeah I dunno what's going on but they keep falling and it just doesn't seem like they are doing anything more than taking very tight turns. I'm not saying it isn't hard and that over the course of a day this wouldn't happen a lot but it seems like its happening too easily.

Almost every person that crashed was leaning as though they were taking a corner at 180 kph and they were almost all looking down before they dumped. To me it seems that they dont have a very good understanding of body positioning in low speed corners or how to look around a corner.

When i was taking my basic riding course i had a very simple message drilled into my head regarding low-speed cornering.... look where you want to go. Every time i looked at a pylon in a tight turn, my rear wheel usually ran over it and i think the same is applying to the riders here except they are going slightly faster. [/i]

It's all about being smooth. Gymkhana shows very precise control of the motorcycle. You use your body weight, trail braking, and many advanced techniques to get through a parking lot obstacle course as fast as possible.

These guys are hamfisted in their controls and you see what you'd expect

They need to re-schedule the course so it's not right after happy-hour ;).

Could it be that they are riding 20 year old bikes on the original tires? The tires appear to have all the corner stick of a bowling ball... :mrgreen:

Looks like one of two things to me;

1) Front brakes.
2) They're trying to dump them...

I agree with dr_bar it looks to me like they are doing it on purpose. Why they would do that is a mystery to me.

Couldn't agree more with that analysis... It looks like some kind of joke where they've purposely given them bad tyres
