I got curious about stopping distance because in my mind and in my experience a bike stops WAY faster than a car. But low and behold the data does not support my perception. Wrider is indeed correct.
Cars 70 - 0 MPH
Chevrolet Malibu ...... 170 ft. (51.82M)
Dodge Avenger ........ 178 ft. (54.25M)
Ford Fusion .............. 172 ft. (52.43M)
Honda Accord EX ...... 169 ft. (51.51M)
Hyundai Sonata ........ 171 ft. (52.12M)
Nissan Altima 2.5s .... 168 ft. (51.20M)
Toyota Camry LE ...... 170 ft. (51.82M)
Bikes 70 - 0 MPH
Ducati 749 ................ 167 ft. (50.83M)
Yamaha R6 ............... 177 ft. (53.89M)

What I take from this is not to overvalue the brakes on my bike in comparison to those of a car. These are fairly average cars, and I'd imagine bikes not in this class will have considerably longer stopping distances.
P.S. Paul here's wishing your friend's daughter a full and speedy recovery.

I wonder about stopping distances.
Like many things, I think a skilled rider say compared to me, would be able to stop in a shorter distance.
It would be interesting to see a study involving say 100 riders on various bikes with various skill levels to understand stopping distances.
I feel like I stop in shorter distances than when I'm in my car - a 2001 Honda Accord Coupe, but according to those figures it isn't true.
I do know that simply rolling off the throttle on my bike on the highway is often enough to change speeds when traffic is slowing down in front of me.

If she was riding on a green light then the lady shooting across should have been on a red. Why are you going on a red? These "accidents" that cause so much pain and cost so much money just turn my stomach. All because you had to get there 3 seconds sooner. Stupid is as stupid does.sapaul wrote:She was crossing over a 4 way intersection on green when another woman decided to shoot across.
I get so "procreating" angry when I hear the same "crumb" every time. I did not see her.
