Sigh...back to the parking lot

I don't read that very often. So do I. I started riding June '08 which is still the beginning of the beginning but half my hours have been in a parking lot.SCgurl wrote: so I practice a LOT.
The conclusion I've come to is that a lot of practicing routine stops is fine but there will always be a chance of losing traction so that needs to be practiced too but THAT takes more skill than I have at the moment so it's back to the basic exercies that improve feel for lean and traction.SCgurl wrote:I've locked the rear on every single bike I've ridden...
It's a talent I'd like to get rid of before it happens and I can't control it. It's one thing in my front yard or in a parking lot; totally another in traffic.
Another thing seems to be helping. Until a couple months ago all my turning practice was coasting, little use of the brakes. Lately all my turning practice involves the rear brake which is helping me learn to not over use it.

I scared myself so bad early on with an excellent example of fishtailing during an emrgency stop...for real....I practiced a lot after that. Touch wood...I haven't locked up the rear wheel for a long time now. I hope never to again.Nalian wrote:I can lock up my rear tire on my 650r with no problem - I've been known to do it a time or two on purpose, but got yelled at a lot for that by my wife.

You know, I don't lock up my rear, but I do have difficulty feeling the rear brake through the boots. I probably over-use my front brake for that reason.
