I think it went a way further than that. Mike doesn't ban somebody very easily, it takes a whole lot to "pee" off that easy going guy and he gives someone every chance he can. It was obvious that marvin was a troll and wasn't adding anything but grief to the boards...

basically you wanna keep your rpms low, shift early, don't accelerate hard.

This depends on the engine. My bandit 600 would get its best fuel economy while wailed on hard in a canyon (working between 6-10k rpm constantly), I would get about 55mpg in the canyons, its worst mpg was highway cruising at 75-80mph (constant 5k rpm) it would get around 41mpg, and it averaged 45-47mpg in normal in town riding (slower acceleration and short shifting).

It sounds like the Bandit 600 is overgeared. It would probably benefit from a tooth down on the countershaft.

My Valk got its best milage right around 2900 RPM, hit 3000 or above and I may as well been driving my 240 SX...

But I bet if you kept the Bandit to 60MPH on the highway, your mileage ould have been the best there, remember, the original poster was looking for the optimal, not the fastest speed... )
