hello i am being offered a bmw bike
it was in a crash and the forks are bent.

they say the engine is unharmed
do you people think i should get it?

i mean are the forks fixable?
at least until i get new forks

also the wheel is bent, but the bike is sweet
and offered at a reasonable price!

Judging by how much regular maintenance on a BMW is, I'm sure it would be pretty expensive to fix. So if he's offering a very good deal on it, you could probably still fix it for under what it's value is. Check out KBB or some other site to see how much it is worth, talk to a couple dealers to see how much it would cost to fix and do the math.

What kind is it?

all i know is it is a bmw 100.

That would probably depend on what exactly is meant by "crashed." From the sounds of it, this bike is pretty messed up, but never say never...

Until you let us know what kind of bike it is and the year, we can't really help you w/ specific resources ...

I bought a "crashed" car once (only I didn't know it had been in a crash). Once I took it in to my mechanic for an alignment, it was discovered that the frame was cracked. It could not be saved. Wasted.

You should at least pay someone who is qualified (or take a friend who is qualified) to check out the bike. It's a small investment to make sure that the bike isn't facing a load of repairs that you're not able to handle. If you don't mind buying into a bike with a questionable history, then just go for it. But you've asked, so there must be some concerns. Personally I'm not comfortable buying a used anything unless either myself or some other qualified person is able to determine the condition of the item. I've parted out a few BMW K bikes in the last few years: (I also built a BMW K100RS out of three that had been crashed.)

With moderate mechincal skills and a Clymer manual, you should be able to fix it yourself. I certainly wouldn't go near a BMW dealer unless you havea bottomless wallet.

I'f it's a K75, K100 or K1100, you should be able to get a pair of good used forks for around $250-300, used wheel $125 -200ish depending on condtion. How are the triple trees? Depending on what bike it is, a set of good used triple trees will run you $100-200.

I would take a look at the bike and forks to see if you can determine how fast it was going when it hit whatever it hit. IF it doesn't look like exceptionally high speed, then the steering head will probably still be in alignment - but there's always a risk of a bent frame on a wrecked bike.
