Re: full face vs open face helmet
Helmet, what helmet, I don't need no stinking helmet. With my hard head it would only be window dressing anyways. I do wear one always, now that I have a DOT approved Novelty helmet that matches my bike. BWWWAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA HA

OMG Martin... being a teacher you should really know a novelty helmet isn't DOT approved! I think you have been taken there by the sales guy. But it does look nice and matches your bike really well.Kingshead wrote:I do wear one always, now that I have a DOT approved Novelty helmet that matches my bike. BWWWAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Re: full face vs open face helmet
I agree with you there. In the rain or wind, a full face is great. For bugs as well, IF you keep the visor mostly closed, I've had a few run-ins with the odd bee in the cheek or head coming in the front of the helmet and exiting the bottom, luckily I've never been stung while riding.noobie wrote:I went from dirt bikes to street bikes - I've never worn anything short of a full-face...
Anyway, full-face is warmer and no rain, wind or bugs
Noobie
I've rode in the USA (Montana) where you don't need a helmet to ride and at the hotel I was going to go out to the store and didn't have my gear but my bike keys and was in the parking lot... 20 min walk or 2 min bike ride.... well, I walked. Maybe it's the training but I just didn't feel right riding with no helmet on .... although if I'm moving my bike around the garage/alley etc I won't wear one of course.

Re: full face vs open face helmet
Learned something today. As long as I wear glasses open face will not cut it at freeway speeds . I can see why aviators are so common, these glasses hardly cover my eyes and the wind in the eyes was unbearable!

ANSI Z87.1 FTW
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.
Always wear a helmet, eye protection, and protective clothing. Never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Re: full face vs open face helmet
The problem with my glasses is not their safety rating, granted that would be a problem if I actually rode shield up much (mostly just around the neighborhood). It is that I have some of these here current style glasses that despite being bifocals are barely bigger than my eyes lol. Provides hardly any wind protection! If my prescription does not change, this year I will be getting contacts again, maybe. bifocal contacts suck, and if I am doing a lot of reading due to job or something, anything but bifocals suck .Johnj wrote:ANSI Z87.1 FTW
