What first model, please advise

#1 Unread post by futurac »

Dear, first post, question.
i am 50y.o, and never drove a bike, got interest to start driving motorbike. the idea is more for weekend tours, for me and my lady.

we have special driving school which i went and did full day of formation training, at the end we could drive some hours.
i was advised to get some lessons and i took with moto specialist, i rented bmw750gs for weekeend, and we did 2x2h of full training. ended in motorway at 120kmh drive.

in some days i have another full day of training, next step after the first one.
biggest question is - what bike to get next.
I am very careful, kind of scared, but i guess its related to experience.
maneuvers are slowly coming, but it takes time, turns, 8, etc..

i liked the 750gs, also very interested in yamaha tracer 900
i am between some opinion groups.
1- some friends, who are experienced saying to go for big one, since in some months i will get used to it.
2- other friends says to go for small bike 300cc+- and get used to it.

please share your idea and advise
thanks in advance

Sounds like you'll easily outgrow 300cc bikes.750GS and Yamaha Tracer are good bikes, it's just a matter of how comfortable a bike to you.

You should try first with some easy one in order to avoid any unwanted situation! There is a chance to get an accident with 300cc or more! I will never be late in my office as I use Yamaha for transportation for my office.

33-34 inch seat height on an almost 500 pound bike is not built for a beginner. I wouldn't recommend yamaha tracer 900 as your first one though. They are great, but the highly sensitive throttle combined with high horsepower could be disastrous for a new rider.

For something more suitable in the same style of bike, try the CB500x, VStrom 650 or Versys 650

The MT-09 is the first Yamaha motorcycle since the XS750 and XS850 to be powered by an inline-three engine. Both are shaft-driven motorcycles produced from 1976 to 1981. In 2017, the MT-09 was updated with fully adjustable suspension, traction control, ABS, slipper clutch, LED headlights and updated styling.

As a beginner, I started driving a Suzuki SV650 because it's really fairly affordable and reliable.

As a beginner, I started driving a Suzuki SV650 because it's fairly affordable and reliable. I already have a year of driving experience, and I still don't want to buy another motorbike. I just fell in love with this one. When traveling and discovering a new city, I'm always looking out for a similar model. Can’t remember the last time I drove a car, tbh. My latest amazing discovery was the city of Buenos Aires. Before flying down there. Their drivers are not exactly very careful about traffic rules.
