I am laughing at all the poor folks who didn't buy their weapons before the election. My evil black rifle was put together in the middle of October and there was a one or two day wait for some of the parts, the rest were in stock.

Now we have worried folks having to wait three to eight weeks on their parts.

Also my high-capacity magazines doubled in value. I should have bought more. :)

That said, I think next week is a great time for me and the SO to get our CCWs before we can't.

How 'bout the bike stuff? Did you narrow down the list yet, or are you waiting until you move?

Seen the price of .223 ammo lately?

Just for that I'd be looking strongly at the other calibers, but take this recently-returned-to-shooting newbie's advice with a lot of NaCl.

DPMS makes an AR-10 in .243, unfortunately it's a heavy SOB at 10.5 lbs empty.

How about a carbine in 7.62x39? It's not the fastest round out there, but it's pretty close to the .30-30. Several outfits make ARs in this chambering. The Olympic Arms version weighs 7.8 lbs.

Still on the "find Shorts a rifle" train of thought. Have you looked at the Browning BAR? 6lbs 10oz for the BAR ShortTrac Stalker in .243.
I'll admit that I know practically nothing about this line of rifles, but it'd at least be another direction to explore.

Are you back in CONUS now?
