Very Special Day!

#51 Unread post by DivideOverflow »

Yesterday was the first time my brother, my father, and I went on a ride together! It was my brother's first time on the road for an extended period of time (he had just followed me to the parkinglot before this). It was great! We rode into downtown Sanford and hit up the Willowtree Cafe, an authentic German restaurant (DELICIOUS!). After lunch, we took a nice relaxing ride along the Lake, hit up a couple backroads, and even let my brother take the lead as we got back into town.

Sadly, I don't have any pictures... we all forgot our cameras. I'll make sure to grab some next time we go out! Our bikes look really nice together. My dad has a big Vulcan Nomad 1500, red and maroon colored, my brother was on the black M50, and I was on the Ducati.

Oh, another tidbit I forgot to post earlier. We picked up a cheap Suzuki Savage 650 for my mom to learn on. The M50 was just a little heavier than she was comfortable with starting, so I found a Savage at a good price for her. It is really easy to ride, very light and nimble, and the powerband is very linear. It is quite torquey, almost like a diesel...lol. Not much top end, being a single cylinder, but good enough grunt for around town. It has an aftermarket exhaust, which sounds pretty good. The only funny thing is that it pops on deceleration sometimes... it is actually quite endearing though. I've nicknamed it the angry beaver, since it sounds like a viscious little animal as it is riding along. The M50 has been nicknamed the angry badger, as it is a slightly bigger animal (and it does sound mean with the cobras on there!), and my dad's vulcan is the angry rhino. My bike is just the duke... haha
Here it is:

Now both my brother and my mother can ride at the same time... So when she is comfortable enough to move up to the M50, I think my brother will get a ducati monster or something of that nature. For now, she is sticking to parkinglots until she is comfortable.

We are officially one big motorcycling family! (Well, more like two families since my parents are separated... but whatever...lol)

The Savage pops on deceleration because of those aftermarket pipes. They allow more air to flow, causing your fuel/air mixture to be overly lean. Re-jetting the carbs with larger jets should slove the problem, if you care about it enough to do so.

Oh yeah, nice bikes. :D

Actually, I read that Savages pop with completely stock setup because they were jetted lean to beat emissions. I drilled out the air-fuel mixture screw, richened it up a bit, and that fixed 90% of the popping issues.

The Ducati is up for sale. I haven't had the time to devote to riding it, since my job has me busy commuting most of the time,a nd I mostly do work around the house on weekends.

If anyone is in the Central Florida area and is interested, let me know. I'm asking $8500, and have put up a post in classifieds.

I hate to sell it, it is a "limited run" bike, and only about 2000 of them actually came to the US (somewhere around there anyway). But they use the same mechanical parts (engine, etc) as the sportclassics and monsters, so spare parts aren't an issue. But it definitely isn't a bike you see every day. I've never seen another person riding one.

Anyway, let me know if anyone has any interest.

Well,
The Ducati sold a few weeks ago.... and today I'm going up to look at a black 2003 Kawasaki Z1000 !!

Image

It has a dent in the gas tank, but the guy has a brand new tank to put on. He also has a seat on it that he made himself (I'm not crazy about the way it looks), but he also has the stock one. So if I send out the stock seat to get worked on, I can at least still ride (albeit in less style...lol).

This should be MUCH better for commuting and tooling around town in. The Ducati was brutal with stoplights and a passenger, and both of those are something I regularly encounter.
