Poll: New Years Eve/Day motorcycle Riding?
Poll: New Years Eve motorcycle Riding?
Do you do the "New Years Eve/Day" motorcycle ride? (ie. try to go out on your bike, if it's possible in the weather, on New Years Eye/Day either by yourself or with a group?)
Myself, I try to do this every year if the weather and road conditions permit, it's great to get out and ride the first day of the year.

I guess I sort of cheat on this one. If it doesn't rain, our temps are usually in the 60s so riding is in!!!

As long as ice is not on the roads, we ride Christmas Day and New Years Day. Sometimes we take our dirt bikes when it really gets nasty. Other than that, we're on street bikes.

The weather is usually fine here around New Year. The worst will be a drop of chilly rain, but the bike is used to that. No probs.
Most years there's the daily commute to work on New Year's Eve, so nothing special there.
On New Year's Day. Why not! It's good to blast off some of the Christmas stupor.
This year though... Snow has come unseasonably early. Thoughts about riding might not be quite so enthusiastic.

Re: Poll: New Years Eve/Day motorcycle Riding?
Weather forecast here for New Years Day is rain. New Years Eve looks better, forecast high of 39, but there's going to be a mess of salt left over from Snowpocalypse 2010 which is just starting now. New Year's ride this year is kind of iffy.

The snow has been piled up here for over 6 weeks and it isn't going anywhere soon. So for my new years day ride I will back the quad out of the garage and pull the kids around the block on their sleds. It's as good as it is gonna get....

Temps up in the 40s here, and the snow is melting. But roads are crusted with salt or puddles of briny melt runoff. There's supposed to be showers tomorrow night, so I have some hope for clean roads on Sunday. We'll see.

Re: Poll: New Years Eve/Day motorcycle Riding?
I tried to get out today around 11am, but I couldn't get my bike going (dead battery I had to pull), I got Andrea's bike going but then it started to freeze rain so that kinda killed that. And I was so looking forward to it this year!

New Years Eve Ride: I rode the VFR down the driveway and up a ramp in to the back of the F150. I then backed it down the ramp and rode it forward with Jim pushing me and the rear wheel spinning helplessly through the snow in to his garage. Woo Hoo - what did I win?

As for what you win - how about I take you out for Taco Bell next weekend?
