Yup...and it was a rookie mistake (or a few of them)...as for the settings on the MT-01...it has preload, bound & rebound at both ends...so I does have a decent suspension to work with, I'm just concerned on the price and availability of the parts since it wasn't the most popular bike...we'll see...

Here's a couple of pics of the damage that I can see (sorry for the dirty bike...didn't take time to wash it...other "wifey" things to take care of)

You think the left one is bent?

This can just be straightened and painted...

Image

I will sand the whole reservoir and repaint it...no leaks...

Image

I think I will look into rear sets for the pegs when I am ordering a new shift lever...

Image

Nothing a little paint and a new trim ring can't fix...

When I start tearing it down to make sure there are no other issues, I'll let you guys know if I find anything...now I just need to wait a bit for the waters to calm...then I'll go get a bike lift and start the work on the bike...

Later.

I got some pricing back from the Yamaha dealer...

Left fork: $555 (for one... )
Shift Lever: $125
Heat Shield trim ring: $89
Front Axle: $60 :|

Total from Yamaha: $829+tax :?

not terrible...but still a pricey learning experience...

Doesn't surprise me in the least... Low production parts cost a bundle!
Hopefully you'll get everything back together and functioning perfectly again soon!
For what it's worth, when you have your front wheel off, make sure to check your steering head bearings, just to make sure they didn't get a flatspot during the crash.

Yup, priced them already...upper and lower for $75...not too bad...I also did some research on the forks...I could go with the forks from the '05 R1...easier to find on ebay :cowboy:

And the shift lever looks quite similar to the one on the FZ6...so who knows...might be able to do the repairs quite a bit cheaper...

Check with cheap cycle parts .com for prices on your OE parts might save you a ton for the same parts. My dealer wants 2x there price for everything.

Gez, those forks are pricy ($550 each)... Don't forget to check our (TMW) shopping guide: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/shoponline.htm it should save you a lot as well, plus 2-5% goes to supporting the site.

Yup...I will be limping for a couple more months (torn ligaments) but I'm fine...the part that really hurts is knowing that it was rider error and not something out of my control that put me in the ditch... :frusty:

Oh well...wifey has told me that there will be no spending on the bike until Xmas is paid for...so I have a few months to look at a broken bike in the garage...once I get the garage cleaned up and organized I will at least tear it down so that it won't be so depressing...then EBAY HERE I COME!!

Thanks for your concern...

Well, I finally ordered the parts last week & now they are here...I need to get new wheel bearing installed in the new rim, then get the poor girl put back together...here's the state she is in now...

Image

Ordered a new rim, a new fork, a new shifter lever and a new axle to be on the safe side...all from Yamaha...I was going to go through Kijiji but then the rim would be miss matched (MT-01 isn't very common) and the forks from an R1 would fit, but I would have to buy both and since they would be used, I would want to change the oil & re seal them anyway...the rest is being fixed with epoxy & paint...I should get it put together this weekend and maybe a ride on Sunday...WOOHOO!!

My buddy has a few spare bikes and invited me to take one out last weekend...absolutely awesome! I hadn't ridden since the crash, so I had a great day...I took his 2000 Honda VFR800 out and he was on his '05 BMW K1200GT...we went out about 200kms, then switched bikes...what a great day!

Learned two things...BMW's are quirky things and I do enjoy having a faring...so my next bike will likely be a sport touring bike so that I can take wifey out for a ride, but my bike is more comfortable than either of those two...

I'll be back posting more ride pics again soon...you've been warned.
