I've always liked the V-Rod, right from the day it was first announced. I think THIS is the bike Harley should be concentrating on, but as long as the air cooled twins continue to sell the liquid cooled bikes will be limited to this model. Having said that, I voted "cool" because of the V-Rod concept in general, not the Muscle in particular. Truth be known, I'm not a fan of the whole muscle bike scene but I can appreciate them for what they are - pure, brute force straight line acceleration machines just like their 4-wheeled counterparts that they borrowed the genre name from. The fact that it has a Harley badge on the tank is a bonus for me, because it renders a lot of the HD basher troll's usual comments about outdated technology and poor handling invalid.

I voted awesome. It is one of the most silly fun bikes that I have ever ridden. The guy I switched bikes with had just passed an RSV Aprilia on the Muscle while chasing my SuperDuke down a twisty road. With a lighter guy like him on it 20 mph throttle bursts light up the wide back tire. Even though I have ridden much more powerful bikes the engine in this thing is one of the sweetest in motorcycling. In black, on the road, there isn't much that actually looks as good either. I am not a cruiser guy but this one I could see myself owning. If you ever get the chance to try one, give it a go.

Ah, this is a hard one for me to vote on as I really like the idea of the V-Rod line and love some of the V-Rod models... The Harley-Davidson V-Rod Muscle looks like a cool bike to me, but there are some negatives for me to vote it Cool... I voted Uncool.

As mentioned above, the V-Rod idea is what Harley-Davidson should be focused on for the future, the V-Rod engine and engineering are top notch. The design flows from front to rear and the bike looks like a Harley-Davidson from the future rather than the far past. Unfortunately Harley-Davidson has done little since the V-Rod introduction in 2002/3 (the engine has been increased a little in size) but the V-Rod is a still not fully accepted as a Harley, it doesn't sound like a Harley it doesn't look like a Harley, doesn't "feel/vibrate" like a Harley and the engine is different than you would find on a tranditional Harley. That doesn't mean it's not a good bike IMO, it means it hasn't found a comfortable niche. H-D has introduced I believe 5 different V-Rod models and today only 2 are left... (If H-D is reading this can you please bring back the Street Rod and normal V-Rod)

Back to the Muscle... For me, it's uncool for a little of the reasons above (V-Rod vs traditional Harley-Davidson) but mostly because it is a very uncomfortable bike to ride for taller riders, the reach is too far forward and so are the pegs and controls, you feel sitting on it like you are on a medieval rack. There is also no room to move back on with the seat being a "back block" and I doubt you'd get a passenger to sit on it. Also as mentioned above the rad at the front has never looked right on the bike. It is more comfortable than the Harley-Davidson VRSCDX Night Rod Special (that is even worse for comfort). The H-D rep's I've talked to say you can ride the Muscle longer than the Night Rod.

Would I buy a V-Rod? Sure would, but there would have to be some changes to it... thankfully that's where H-D excells, accessories.

In the end, it's a great looking bike, is what modern Harley-Davidson engineering should be and goes like stink, but I think some of the magic in owning a Harley-Davidson is the sound and feel of it, and the V-Rod doesn't possess that. Might as well buy a Suzuki M109.

Ok, colour me confused here... you're one of the many who have complained about HD's "lack" of technology, outdated styling, inferior engine design and vibration, yet now you're complaining that the V-Rod is lacking because it doesn't possess those qualities? The V-Rod is Harley's attempt to attract a new generation of riders while preparing the traditional customer base for the inevitable changes that are long overdue for the iconic air-cooled 45 degree twin. While the V-Rod has (and continues to) sold like hotcakes in Europe it is still slow to gain acceptance here in North America, which is hardly the fault of the company. Several of the V-Rod models were dropped because, as I understand it, they were poor sellers. HD is not known for keeping unpopular models on the roster (Road Glide excepted) so they have gone to the muscle bike genre to capture that growing market. Riding positon and radiator aside, I still think the whole V-Rod concept is a major step in the right direction for Harley. But as long as there is still a large customer base for their traditional model lineup, they are going to milk that one for all it's worth while continuing to work on the liquid cooled product. And they have been working on it, but in true Harley fashion only the dedicated enthusiast can pick out the changes and improvements made since the first model year.

Radical changes are coming in the motorcycling industry, due in no small part to ever tightening EPA regs, and I think HD is heading in the right direction - just not fast enough, IMO.

Ugly though it is, that rad is actually a marvel of design engineering. I watched a program on the Discovery Channel about the entire V-Rod project and they went into great detail about how the rad was designed to allow maximum flow in a restricted space; those huge scoops on the side actually direct the airflow into a vortex pattern that apparently gives it the cooling capability of a normal rad twice its size. But, yes, it is still ugly. :)

I have applauded Harley-Davidson's attempt to attract new riders with the V-Rod, when it came out in 2002/3 I was right on H-D's bandwagon saying "This is the bike H-D needs to build and build big on". In fact in July I told Harley-Davidson Canada this very fact and stressed to them the need to do more to attact a new generation of riders to the H-D brand.

I was one of the many who have complained about HD's "lack" of technology pre-2000 models. It wasn't untill 2000 that H-D really started to address (IMO) the issues with vibration in the sportster line. After 2000 they also introduced fuel injection in the entire line up (the first manufacturer to do so) and I appaluded them for that big time... I do know carbs played a big role in H-D heritage but FI was the future no-one could avoid anyways. If you look at today's H-D's they have come a long way in 11 years. Victory (IMO) has more technology than H-D's but they lack the H-D forumla. I guess is that "inferiorness" that makes H-D's formula so special. Without it, it's not a H-D. That makes me pause because I think "Hmmm, that's puts Harley-Davidson into a bind because you can't innovate and keep the formula".

The V-Rod I really like, but the formula is missing something and I think it is the little bit of "bad boy harshness" that is present on the other H-D's. Maybe that is why it really hasn't found it's deserved place yet.

On the other note "While the V-Rod has (and continues to) sold like hotcakes in Europe" I haven't seen even 1 Harley-Davidson V-Rod yet in over 2 years here in England and haven't seen one in Germany, France, Italy or CZ. I have seen H-D's but not very often, the roads here are way to "small and curvy" for them.

Here you go:
The engine has the power to produce around 125 hp at 8250 rpm and up to 85 ft-lbs. of touque at 7000 rpm.
It's quite the V-Twin power plant for it's cc size.
