2013 Suzuki DR-Z400SM

The Suzuki DR-Z400SM is a street legal bike for serious dirt bike enthusiasts. It's not uncommon to take the SuperMoto down a twisty forest trail as well as a tight canyon corners. Its 398cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke engine provides strong low-rpm torque and crisp throttle response for any of these occasions. They key difference from the DR-Z400SM and the DR-Z400S is the inverted forks. Inverted front forks contribute to less unsprung weight and improved overall handling.

Personally I don't like the look of dirt bikes. For me the only cool thing about this one is the blue rims.

I loved my DRZ400sm. Mine was an 05 or 06 and boy did it take a licking an keep coming back for more. I bought it off a friend who used it for nothing but track days. I bought it as a street bike and mostly rode it off road. Heavy for a dirtbike, but a damn good bike.



FYI, the Canadians are getting a SLAMMING deal. The exchange rate is about $1.02 to every USD.

I gave it a cool looks a bit heavy for a motard but still I'd ride one!!!

Looking at one right now...not sure if I'm interested in the SM or just the S model...and the seat, wow what a brick! But a great bargain and a hoot to ride! 10L fuel tank, but great consumption...so mediocre range. The bike is well supported by the aftermarket though, so the tank and saddle can be rectified without too much trouble.

I vote: COOL! (not quite an awesome, but really close)

It has a nice stance, and most of the things that I dislike (street tires and gold forks) should be easily fixed. Plus, it should prove a lot of fun off-road. Therefore, I gave it a Cool vote. If the blue played a more prominent role, and I was certain I could flat-foot it, I would have given it an Awesome.

When I bought my KLX, I would have bought the DRZ-S had the seat height been the same as the KLX at 35" instead of the sky high 37". I liked the DRZ-SM because the seat height was much lower at 35" and it had the upside down forks.

I really like the blue wheels. I want to give it an awesome but its on the porky side and the lack of a 6th gear knocks it down to cool.....oh what the heck, I'll vote awesome.

Uncool. There's just no place for turn signal stalks and rearview mirrors on the trail, and if you bust something during your off-roading that you're gonna need when you get back to the pavement, you're SOL.

That said, there's a sort of 'necessary evil' about enduros. Here in Utah we have some world-famous off-roading down in Moab, but more than 90% of the Moab trails are considered 'real' roads despite being dirt. That means you have to have a fully registered street legal machine to ride them, so an enduro is your only real option. Which is why I can't give this a Fail.

That is highly unusual. We usually pay more for things here regardless of the exchange rate.
