Supreme riding dynamics, athletic character combined with maximum safety and everyday practicality – these are the defining characteristics of the BMW Motorrad 4-cylinder models. For the model year 2017 the supersports bike S 1000 RR, the dynamic roadster S 1000 R and the adventure sports model S 1000 XR have undergone the following model revisions:

The new BMW S 1000 RR – virtually perfect yet still optimised.
• Adaptation to EU4 requirements.
• ABS Pro as a new element of the optional equipment item “Riding Modes Pro”.
• DTC as standard.
• The new RR now as standard as a single-seat model with passenger seat cover. The optional passenger package is available free of charge as an alternative.
• Well-established colour concepts Racing Red non-metallic/Lightwhite non-metallic and BMW Motorsport (Lupine Blue metallic/Lightwhite non-metallic/Racing Red non-metallic), though in a new design.
• New colour variant Granite Grey metallic/Blackstorm metallic.
• Design Option Wheels with red rim lines now included as standard as part of the colour concepts Racing Red non-metallic/Lightwhite non-metallic and BMW Motorsport.

The new BMW S 1000 RR – the virtually perfect supersport model has been further optimized. Ever since BMW Motorrad launched the S 1000 RR in 2009, the first 4-cylinder supersport bike made by BMW, the “Double R” has had a lasting impact on this market segment. Consistent and ongoing development has since ensured that the RR occupies pole position among the superbikes with road traffic certification. For the model year 2017 it was, once again, possible to further enhance the virtually perfect supersport bike.

Potent in-line 4-cylinder engine, adapted to EU4 requirements. The 999 cc in-line 4-cylinder engine has been adapted to meet the requirements of the EU4 pollutant class. The peak output is still 146 kW (199 hp) at 13,500 rpm and the maximum torque of 83 lb-ft (113 Nm) is reached at 10,500 rpm. In the interests of excellent rideability, the new RR also has a wide engine speed range along with torque from approximately 9,500 (83 lb-ft/112 Nm) to 12, 000 rpm (83 lb-ft/113 Nm).

again for the 3rd week in a row.....meh.......I am sure it's a great bike both on and off the track, and those fans of the brand and model would hang from a the nearest tree limb for saying that the market is so saturated with these cookie cutter bikes that it is hard to tell them apart, apart from their badge. So yeah meh, lets see a new take on theme.

I think the bike is awesome. Would I buy one? Most likely not. I think I would rather have a sport tourer of some flavor, fjr, concour 14. Sure would be a fun bike though.

I'm voting cool, but only because voting uncool would be a bit harsh. Nothing wrong with the bike itself, but it's been around since 2009 (with tweaks over the years). And overall, this has gotten to be a pretty uninteresting category in recent years. Maybe all the bikes really do seem the same, maybe I'm getting older and less interested, maybe bike culture itself is evolving, maybe there's a lot more interesting development in other bike categories.

I hear you about getting older and jaded. Me, I'm more of a touring type guy but I have to say that I have been watching BMW development and manufacturing videos on YouTube and find the quality and technology used in their bikes to be quite amazing. I am indeed glad I purchased a BMW. I once wasn't happy about the price, but watching what goes into each build makes me wonder why they don't cost more. This bike, while not my style, represents so much more than just the run of the mill crotch-rocket you initially see.

449 lbs fully fueled, 200hp? Wowerz, it seems that is getting close to pro superbike stats from just a few years ago? Riders have always wondered if bikes are getting TOO powerful to ride how they were designed to ride. Back in 2004, I was interviewing Honda about the new CBR1000RR, and they said, at the time, THAT bike was too powerful for their test riders. I can't imagine anyone outside of MotoGP ever using 90% of this bike. Does it make it a "waste", I think so, as a rider should be able to ride a bike to it's extremes, and if they can't, then they are just along for the ride.

Stats aside, the "Double R" is an extreme bike in almost everyway, even in the riding position.

Awesome for what it is, it's looks, technology, but for riding, I'm not so sure...

Notes: Technologically stunning. Even though we are most likely looking at the #1 voted bike of 2017, It is interesting to see the "Sportbike" category starting to wane in the past couple of years as interest, sales and development start to fall off. Could it be sportbikes are "too much of everything" now? Too uncomfortable? Or riders are, on average, just "getting older"? It will be interesting to see in the next 5 years where the trend for sportbikes go. What is hot right now is Scrambler bikes, could anyone guess that 5 years ago?
