In fact, the more I look at it the more differences I see. The top picture also shows a normal fender/plate bracket mounted under the tail instead of the mudguard bracket, and no reflectors on the fork tubes in the top picture. The top picture would seem to be a custom aftermarket job with the bar-end mirrors and reflector delete, but then why the fender? That's the first thing sport bike riders do is an eliminator kit right? Curiouser and curiouser. You're right Mike, someone needs to get some pics of this creature in it's natural habitat.

High_side will be attending the Calgary Motorcycle Show this year as Press and I've asked him to take a photo of the bike if it is there and also ask Husqvarna about the differences. I believe you might be going to a show as well?

On a side note: If any readers get a photo of the new 2018 Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 in the flesh before we do, post it here. "Inquiring minds want to know!"

I voted: Awesome

Maybe not 100% for its looks but for the fact Husqvarna is again leaving its comfort zone and trying to produce a street bike. The 2018 Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 design cues are very interesting and as JackoftheGreen points out, there are differences in the press photos are to be seen. For me, the 2018 Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 looks a lot like a Buell with some Ducati influences, but leaning towards more "industrial" look rather than "fashiony". You would think they could get more than 12l of gas in that oddly designed tank...

A 700cc, 1 cylinder engine and 12l of gas will sure make an interesting combination. The "Big Single" is back!

Total Motorcycle's Take-a-Way: Unique, different, but will owners find it lovingly flawed? 1 cylinder engine, tiny odd 12l tank, weird seat, (maybe) a single disc upfront doesn't make mass market appeal, but maybe Husqvarna doesn't care, they want to be unique and different. The first street bike by Husqvarna in 10 years and definitely one of the new "must see" bikes at any Motorcycle Show.
