LADIES - First ride today-- I'm on my way!
So I followed all of the excellent advice that folks offered me and purchased:
1. An Arai Astral-X helmet (fits **great**)-- it was interesting, after trying on at least 10-25 helmets, the minute I tried this one I knew it was a match.
2. A neat Tourmaster textile/mesh jacket from Newenough
3. A pair of Joe Rocker gloves
4. A pair of USA-made Bear Hollow boots (from the "bootgoddess" on ebay) -- lace up with a zipper and instep strap, great vibram sole -- very sturdy and comfortable.
I got picked up my learner's permit at one of the CRAZY Bronx, NY DMVs. My husband warned me it would take 3 hours, but the usually grumpy ladies there got such a kick out out of the fact that the little grey-haired lady wanted a Motorcycle permit that they expedited the process and got me out in an hour (true story).
Early this morning my husband took me out to a huge parking lot and showed me the basics on the Virago (I had never ridden before)-- by the time we were done I could shift into second, do some basic countersteering in turns, and downshift to 1st when I stopped. It took a lot of concentration, but it was really fun.
On Thursday-Friday of this week I take my MSF, a little apprehensive, but the session with my husband helped take a little of the nervousness away. I'll let you know how it goes!

Have FUN jct,
as I know you will! I hated when the class was over. Can't wait to hear all the details...
Also being a little grey haired lady, when women ask you why you would want to do such a thing (riding motorcycles) tell them you do it for all the gals that always wished they had!!

Tactically aware and dangerously underestimated!
