Stopping on a hill while turing - techniques?

There are 3 elements to my question: What are some of the technique you use when a) approaching a hill where you need to b) stop and look left/right for oncoming traffic c) make an actual right/left turn?

I seem to struggle with this particular scenaio - and try to avoid if at all posisble. But I know I can't avoid it forever.

Any advise would be great.
Thanks!

Check out Capt Crash's videos. I know he covers stopping on a hill and making turns from a stop.

Basically you need to hold the bike on the hill with either your front brake, your back brake, or by slipping the clutch.

Hi djspring ....Have yor read Profident Motorcycling by David Hough? He sez .... the center of gravity is down even if the road is on an angle or slanted. The advice johnj gave about CaptCrash of Idaho is a good source too.

This is a video called 'voices.' It includes his web sight. You'll like it.

Even though I've been riding for 7 years. I still find myself making sure I STOP the bike, bars straight. Before I look for traffic. Especially if the terrain looks kind of "iffy." Has helped avoid tipovers.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the tips.

Great tip about ensureing the bars are straight :)

I also checked out the suggested youtube videos and found them to be very helpful. The "Listen to the Voices" video is awesome - I'm going to FORCE my hubby to watch it. At time, he seems to be more concerned with what others people sharing the road will think or do than about his/my safety. Go figure?? From now on, I will certainly listen to my own voice (not his)! Hopefully this will keep me safe.

Thanks again everyone!!

Be careful, sometimes the voice tells you to have another piece of cheesecake.

It's okay to listen to that voice - the second piece never has any calories!

The key is to stop (bars straight, of course), THEN look for traffic.
