i have a chance of buying a honda xl600

what are your thoughts on this bike?

Good, reliable bikes. Very few problems crop up as long as you keep oil in it and generally maintain it. A bit porky for true off-road, but so were all it's competitors. If it's in good shape, there's no reason to not grab it.

depending on the year... if its a kickstart.... its gonna be a "dog" to start. I hope you are fairly tall and muscular..... :lol:

Not really. A-buck-n-a-bit of me can start one with no trouble. Just make sure the automatic de-compession is working properly. If it's not (the cables tend to fail over time), nows a good time to put an aftermarket manual type on. It's about the same cost to fix the stock system, and gives you control over the de-comp activation.

Keeping the bike tuned up helps alot too, 'specailly the carb.

Well I have a time sating the one I have, its more like a work out then anything for me. Even my friends have a problem with it. Id say try to see how it is to start for you before you by it. Otherwise they are great bikes. A friend of mine has take it every where in the mountains with no problems, even two up.
