I am new to the motorcycle world and will be taking the MSF class in a
couple of weeks...I was just wondering how many miles everyone
logged on before having the skill level to take a long overnight trip...say
600 miles round trip...thanks in advance for sharing[/b]

and where you want to go.
It was about 1000 miles/three weeks before I really felt comfortable taking "unexplored" roads (roads I'd never driven on before), mainly because there is always something (bad road surface, weird road design, blind intersections, or whatever) around the corner on an unfamiliar road. I have a bit over 2000 miles now... I wouldn't hesitate to do 400 or so miles a day on "tame" (mostly paved this century) roads... I'm not talking about sticking to interstates, but I wouldn't be willing to take some of the routes I'd take in my car.
Of course, in a car I'll take any road they put on a map and a few roads they don't...

(sorry for the hijack

One of my friends still busts up laughing every time I say "should we go back for it?" because of a ride we took in my Jetta... we were following a dirt trail through a rough patch and the plastic liner on one of the front fenders came off the car... I stopped, looked out the rear window at the black plastic part lying on the trail behind us, said "should we go back for it??? nah..." and drove on...
It was after that ride that I put a steel belly pan in to protect the engine. Oh, and a new oil pan...
