Foward Controls
Foward Controls
I have recently purchased a 1982 Yamaha XJ650J Maxim and was wondering if it is possible to put foward controls on it. I love the bike just want to move the brake and shifter up to a more comfortable position. I also want to add floor boards. Any advice?

I personally like the controls where they are, but if you want a quick fix id recommend some "Highway Pegs" attached to the engine guards. I like them because I can have my legs under me in sportier maneuvers (getting on any highway in Minneapolis at 8am) but then if I am cruising for any period of time my legs can stretch out a bit. I can understand your desire though, im 6' 1" or so, depends on the gas station, and it felt cramped for the first couple hundred miles.

I had the same bike for several years, and never saw what you are looking for, and I was searching eBay and the web regularly for parts. Unfortunately, the age of your bike means less is available than it is for newer crusiers from sources like J&P.
As already mentioned, putting pegs on the case guards may be your only option unless you can find a fabricator to weld extensions on the brake and clutch.
