Deals Gap Video

#1 Unread post by plasticweld »

My son Russ and I go to Deals Gap a couple of times a year, we went down in the Spring as part of the Chritian Sport Bike association for the spring rally, while we were there we shot some great footage, lots of cops, some fast riding and a crash we caught that happend just in front of us.

Liked the video, and I love your slogan, "Ride Hard! Take Chances! We need the work."

Most of that was pretty squidly. I can't say I'm impressed. Perticularly the cutting off of the cars around a corner as a car came... Also the wheelies weren't that cool..

I can say though, it was great you were were you were because you were able to help that fallen biker.

Yeah it was great but from the video it looked like they were more concerned about the bike

Well, I liked it. Some impressive riding skills on a notorious twisty road, decked out in full gear. Riding that kind of bike, a wheelie on a straightaway, no cars coming, doesn't mean squid, imo. Only part of the riding I couldn't agree with was some of that double yellow passing.

And what you did for the fallen rider was tremendous!!!

Oh, and that music wasn't my cup 'o tea :P , but that's all a matter of taste. I don't use things like "pwn3d" or "ghey", either. Maybe I'm just showing my age.

On all of those passes we were able to easily tell we had more than enough room to go. Even the pass Russ makes on the van after the crash is safe. If you pay attention you can see him look through the trees to the right before the pass... From there you could see the next TWO corners.

It's just hard to tell on the video due to quality. We are pretty safe when it comes to passing down there; too many close calls with cagers who don't know how to keep all 4 wheels on their side.

Not only did this never happened, but no car was ever even "cut-off" :frusty: Only one car and one RV was passed in the whole video...

I wish my skills were close too yours!
I watched the video a couple of times and there was plenty of "view room".
You could tell that you were paying strict attention to what was happening "all around you" not to mention you were "dressed for the fall".

As far as paying more attention to the Bike...
If the guys says "I'm ok" then you go to the Bike and take care of it, Period!

My Bike is my Baby, and after making sure that I'm ok (actually I worry about my Bike first) then I check the Bike.

All of you guys who think this was "Squidly work" need to get a rocking chair; just maybe you could handle it! :shooting2: :laughing:

Impressive vid. Too bad the guy went down, and I wish I could ride like that.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Thanks :P

As for running back over to his bike... 3 of his buddies pulled up right behind him. His bike was running still and was making funny noises (no oil left).

Besides, hist first thoughts were about his bike as well :)

He ended up just getting a 2nd degree seperation of his left shoulder, which is lucky because I was sure he broke his colar bone. It was already his planned last day at the Dragon and he didn't have to miss any work. We have his bike at our shop now and he's flying out to get it soon. It's all fixed and will be painted early next week.

While riding I do a lot of looking around, and paying attention to my surroundings. When I'm running the camera I have to work extra hard to use my eyes more than my entire head.

On the topic of gear, we always ride full leathers, back protectors, gloves and racing boots (and of course helmets). On the motard I crash frequestly :) It's easy to push the bike and find the limits because I don't have to worry about doing 6k worth of damage to it if I screw up (like on my sportbike). Thats helped me become a much better rider and much more confident.
