Great Helmets & Helmets to Avoid?

  • Quote

#1 Post by TripleB » Fri Jun 09, 2006 6:14 am

Are there any brands of helmets that should be avoided?

What are some of the best helmet brands out there?

I know different helmets fit different people better, but I would like to know if there are brands I should avoid because of their lack of superior protection in a crash.

Thanks.

pretty much all DOT rated helmets should be good.

Shoei is one of the best
Shark helmets are decent from what i hear.

I wear KBC

i would never buy a helmet online, used, or from a walmart or something like that, which is about the only place you would find a "bad" helmet i think

What if a local dealer has a helmet that you love the feel and fit of but they don't have the color you want. Would you order it online in order to get the color(s) you want?

My answer: yes.
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

would depend on who i am ordering it from and how it was shipped. most USPS/UPS/Fedex guys don't take the "fragile" stickers to heart so your new lid could be in for a bumpy ride.

This may be a stupid question (and probably is), but do all helmets that have the same style number (ie: Shoei RF-1000), fit the same no matter what style of graphics they have on them. I know that the RF-1000 comes in, what seems like, 1000 different graphic designs...will the solid colored one fit the same as any other one like the "Nerve?"

I'm assuming that they all fit the same if they have the same 'style' number, but I want to make sure that if my local dealership has a solid color in one model (and it fits well), the 'fancy' colored one I order would fit the same.

Thanks.

I ordered my Scorpion helmet online since my local dealer didn't have the color in the size I wanted. I guess I'll have to hope they put enough packing material in the box.

FYI, it was from www.motorcycle-supersports.com, which has a pretty good retailer rating.

I'd stay away from KBC helmets, I hate their visor attachement dealies... prone to breaking.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

And we're assuming these helmets are transported in another magical way to the dealership?
