"neutral at top" is just a variation of the 1 up 5 down... (like verm's) race-wanabes (and a few racers) set their bikes up that way so they can upshift while deep in corners without risking toes.
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

It gives an extra inch or two of clearance on the left hand side when turning.

It also makes it difficult to execture a proper emergency stop.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Well, thanks to everyone for the replies. Today I took my bike in for the first service visit and the dealer was nice enough to loan me a Sprint ST just to kill time on. The bike was "normal" and was really a nice ride also, although a little more tame than my Supersport. I guess i answered my on question the hard way. :)

Waaaay back when. (Long before me let alone my time.) Indians were marketed as police bikes.

The clutch and throttle on the left was so that you could shoot at the fleeing villain (Think Capone). With the right (gun) hand without letting off the throttle.

I guess the left handed law men got "regular" bikes. No wait that was when they'd force you to learn to be right handed just like the majority, because being a lefty was just wrong. (If you're not right then you MUST be wrong.)

No I'm not a lefty.

Sooo much Use-less trivia.
Familiarity breeds contempt.
