Hello from Marietta, OH – Part two

#1 Unread post by gxbauman »

Don't know why I haven't made it back here since my first (and last) post, but YES I got my bike (the '82 Yamaha Virago 750 I was looking at in my June 2 post), and YES it's in the shop. I won't know until the 21st or so how much it'll cost to get it out of the hawk shop (commonly referred to as a "repair shop.") As expected, the carburetor needs work and the front brake needs bled. They also found that the front forks are leaking oil and that the oil has found it's way to the rotors. They tell me that's dangerous. But hey, danger's my middle name so I told them not to fix it. (No I didn't really tell them that, "lying-sack-of-crap" is my REAL middle name.) But it's in the shop being laughed at as we speak.

No word yet if the oil's soaked into the brake pads yet. If so, then it's curtains for the break pads, curtains for my wallet, curtains for my marriage, etc., etc. But you'll know if that happens: I'll be the guy out in front of the prone '82 Virago skidding down the freeway doing 65 on his butt :flame: laughing maniacally wearing tennis shoes,a tank top and what's left of his speedo's hollering "it's too good for toilet paper!" Oh, and you'll see a bright white spot where my wedding ring used to be. At first glance you'll think it's Ted Kennedy on another binge, but it'll just be me, so save your film.

So I started my bike up (man, I love saying that!) one more time just to give myself the warm-fuzzies and then trailered it down to the shop. But of course it wouldn't start there for the fix-it guy. Noooooooo. But that didn't seem to concern the fix-it guy too much. I just hope they find nothing else wrong with it. Jinx! Crap.

So if all goes well (jinx again! Crap!), my next post will be of my inaugural ride in the "Motorcycle Ride Stories…" forum! Or perhaps I'll just be bawlin' in the "My Bike Will NEVER Work" forum that I'll start.

Stay tuned and stay up.
