From ESPN article: Roethlisberger also broke his left sinus cavity, suffered a 9-inch laceration to the back of his head, lost teeth and has knee injuries from hitting the pavement. A plastic surgeon has been called in, the source said.

Too bad not all the squids out there can afford plastic surgery. We'd have a lot better looking people around.

I want to say that these public "martyr" images showing the consequences of not wearing gear is a good thing for our society, but unfortunately it never seems to do any good and squids just think it won't happen to them. However, I'm glad Roethlisberger is stable and hopefully the news of his incident saved some squid's life out there and convinced him to at least wear a helmet from now on. it's just too bad it had to be like this.

Btw...nine inch laceration on the back of the head? That is some seriously painful stuff.

I'm sure it's all preliminary at this point ...I agree that he would have fared better with a helmet on, but that doesn't make it his fault. We don't know who is at fault yet, not that it makes a hell of a lot of difference.

On my drive home I was listening to NFL Radio on my Sirius Satellite Radio. They were blasting Rothliesberger...not for not wearing a helmet, but for driving a motorcycle at all. One caller even compared driving a motorcycle to doing drugs, saying they were both irresponsible and stupid.

I was irate. They didn't even focus on the lack of a helmet and gear. I tried calling, but the wait was over an hour and I didn't have that much time.

SOOOOO mad right now!

As an obsessive Cowboys-hater and Browns fan. I like Rothliesberger, too. Hope he's OK. Kellen never will be.

And further more as a Browns fan I'll ... just ... uh ... shut up now and put my head back in the sand.

As a massive Colts fan and hater of all who beat them, i must say while it sucks for him and i truly hope he is ok, i have to admit i smiled a little at the prospect of the biggest threat to my Colts being out. . .

Actually, no, if I'm not mistaken Peyton will still have the chance to choke if he gets to the playoffs, so your biggest threat seems unaffected by this.

Steelers star Ben Roethlisberger, the youngest quarterback to lead a team to the Super Bowl championship, broke his jaw and nose in a motorcycle crash Monday in which he was not wearing a helmet.

ESPN reported that the quarterback also suffered nine-inch laceration on the back of his head, broken teeth and knee damage, citing unnamed sources. A plastic surgeon has been called in, ESPN reported.

That's how the Sheeple respond to firearms. I'm a gun enthusiast, and CCWer as well. The kind of ignorance from those that have no education or training on a specific activity is maddening.

On Ben, I do hope he recovers well (I am still faithful to the 'boys). The accident is unfortunate. As for who's fault it is, that's semantics now. 1) Cage drivers need to be aware and considerate. 2) MC riders need to SIPDE (Scan, Identify, Predict, Decide, Execute), hopefully Ben took all defensive and any offensive actions he could (like riding in the lane position where turning traffic can see you). It sux that when riding and doing everything as right as could be, drivers still do something to put bikes in bad situations...as I think back to the flagrant POVs who pulled out in front of us on our last ride, can you say 3 emergency stops in 15min..

I imagine more care while be taken at intersections if and when Ben rides again. At the very least, he better start wearing a helmet. A full face would have saved him a lot of trouble. Sounds like his head and face got pretty banged up from direct contact with the car.

good point, but i dont think he will choke this year, if he does then well i donno, but i just gotta hope and pray that he doesnt.

This was crazy news, I wish him a speedy recovery. I read one site that made it sound like the woman driving was found to be at fault. The MSNBC website said that no charges have been filed. I’m sure it might take a little while on the paperwork, but I hope she is charged. If no charges are filed I hope ABATE makes a big deal about this (if nothing else hopefully it will bring some national attention to a serious threat that motorcyclists face every day).
