I need an Engine

I know this is off topic but I figured this was the best place to get my question answered.

What are the higest Horse Power sport bike engines out there?

I'm looking for an engine for a small formula car and want as much power as possible.

Other conciderations would be availability, price, reliability. Basicly a mainstream engine with good HP.

I have found two that could work:

2004 Kawasaki ZZR1200
160 HP @ 9500 RPM
91 Lbs @ 8200 RPM

2000 Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird
164 HP @ 9500 RPM
91 Lbs @ 7250 RPM

What do you think of these engines?

Are there better choices out there?

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks
Brian

Zx14 for Kawasaki

or the Standard Busa from Suzuki.

Orrrrr you could probably try the Rocket three from Triumph??
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I would expect you could easily find a GSXR1000 engine in good shape, from a parted-out (wrecked) bike, on ebay etc.... I think it's in the 170+hp range. Lots of these are wrecked with LOW miles, because the power is more than many can handle.

Sounds like a cool project.

alternately you can hope that someone wrecks their ZZR 1400 and just reprogram the ECU and fiddle with the related parts to remove the artificial restrictions and you'll have a pretty bad "O Ring" formula racer.
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.

I had a friend who had a motorcycle engine in a red suzuki hatchback something or other. I don't talk to him much since I graduated so I don't think I'll ever find out what kind of engine it was.

Was it fast? Was it slow? Did it run at all?

I would go with either a Hayabusa or a GSXR1000. Reason being, they've been on the market for a while (Though the 1000 has evolved quite a bit) and there are mor likely to be wrecked bikes at a junk yard.

Call around and see where sport bikes go to die in your area.

Not exactly an answer to your question, but what kind of gearboxes are run in those? Is it a special tranny plate that you use or what?
