I'm obviously biased, but there are tons of used SVs available on the market - and they are great bikes. I personally feel that they're about the perfect motorcycle. While my SV is the first bike I've owned, it is far from the first I've ridden. It handles commuting very well, it handles sporty canyon/mountain carving exceptionally well with it's flat torque curve (yay for vtwins), it handles sport touring duty very well with a few modifications, and it is very easy to maintain yourself. I've been back from Iraq for about 5 months now, and I've put over 9000 miles on mine. 2400 of those were last week

Is this a good choice for a first bike? I love the look/feel of it and have ridden my mates around the block a couple times. If this is not a good choice... do you have any naked bike recommendations other then the SV650? Thanks all in advance!

This is a question that only you can answer. If you've ridden the bike and don't feel intimidated by it, then why listen to a bunch of near-paranoid loonies when they tell you to buy a Honda Trail 70 and never leave your backyard?

Yes, I'm goofing, but at the same time I'm serious. I'd highly suggest riding your friend's bike around the block a few more times before you make that decision though. Just a couple of trips won't be enough to tell you anything about the bike or your ability to handle it. Actually, the best option is to find a nice big empty parking lot to play around in for a few hours....

THEN go buy the Trail 70.
