Ok, i'll try to answer these in order  I got my learners at 14, so i've been driving for a little over 2 years, got my probationary in march. I'm about 5'7"-8"ish, and I weigh a little over 135lbs, last time I got myself weighed and measured. And I'm also not right in Edmonton, but Spruce Grove, so the roads ar ok sometimes... I was planing on taking a motorcycle safety course, and I already started reading some of the matierials on the net. Oh, and I've already done some riding on dirtbikes, I think I started when I was 11 or 12, haven't done too much though, just at friends. I'm also looking at something that isn't too expensive, and can get up to highway speeds.

Ditto what Mike said.

Buying used is a good idea. But don't go so old that things are falling apart! Getting a bike and then having to replace everything really sucks. Also do NOT buy a bike that has been dropped. There are most likely issues that the seller won't tell you about or doesn't even know about.

I recommend something between 250 and 500cc. Keep an eye on the classified ads, mark the ones that sound good, call the seller, and go sit on the bike.

Good luck and have fun!

Visit a dealership and sit on the bikes. See which ones seem to fit you.
If you're still interested in a cruiser check out a Kawasaki Vulcan 500. It's small enough to learn on yet big enough to handle the highway. It's insurance friendly and relatively inexpensive even if you have to buy a new one. I've had one for a year. It's my first bike and l couldn't be happier.

The only exception to the rule occurs when I make an exception to the rule not to make an exception to the rule and that only occurs under exceptional circumstances.

Hyosung GV-250 won shootout between 250cc cruisers in Motorcyclist magazine. It is a great bike and has a 3.7 gal gas tank , a tach, fuel gage and tubless tires plus a 2 yr warrenty.

Yamaha 650 V Star perfect beginners bike, better resale value than bikes double its size, shaft drive, brakes that really work, comfortable seat, easy to ride and handle, sounds and looks good, everybody thinks its a Harley. Custom is the boys bike, Classic is the girls bike.
