They have to rebuild the whole rearend (so they say) and they want to get a used rearend from the junkyard. I could probably do the work for less than half of what it costs the mechanic to do the work. If my mom won't pay for it (she's always claiming it's her truck whenever she wants to do something like go "fudge" it up [the reason why it fell apart in the first place was her driving, I'm sure] or take it to pick up something without asking then leave it in my work's parking lot with no gas) then I'm gonna just have it towed to my backyard where it can sit until I work on it. My dad is going to "give" me a Ford Escourt to drive around, but that'll be a couple of weeks from now.

That's what I'd like to do. I'm also gonna ask them (they closed at 6pm) how much it'd cost if we went and got and cleaned the axle then had them do all the work. It may be just as prudent to just do all the work ourselves.TechTMW wrote:Man, it's stuff like that that made me decide to become a mechanic.
+1 to the last post. You should be able to locate, clean, renew and swap axles in a weekend. And all for under $200 max.
