Hello - New to the board

Hi Everyone,

My name is Jean. My husband and I just completed the Motorcycle Safety course here in PA. What a great Course!!! Expecially for me, who has never driven stick shift or rode a motocycle before. My husband had a mini bike growing up, but basically both of us are really new at it. I've always wanted one and finally at 31 decided to go for it. Right now we are researching and looking for bikes. He's gone from a sport bike to a cruiser now. Me I'm still decided on what to get. Right now we are heading out to look at more bikes. I'm caught between going with a 250, I like the rebel, GZ250 and the virago or steping up to the Suzuki S40. Which is a 650 but only 50 lbs more then the 250's. Will have to see how it feels. Any advice anyone has, I'll take it!

Welcome, Jean! I think you're going about it in the right way. Spend some time sitting on the models you're considering and get a feel for them. Which bike did you do your MSF on?

THank you! I had a little Kawaski Eliminator and my husband had a GZ250 in class.

We went shopping again today and I sat on all kinds of bikes. But the one that felt right was the Suzuki S40, the shop I was at only had a black one and I liked it but I wasn't crazy on the color on that bike. Guess what? While shopping one of the salesman called and said that they just got a white one in, I had 3 shops on call if they got a s40 in, since I hadn't sat on one before today. Went and looked at it. Fell in love! It just feels right. The weight isn't too much, I could rock it back and forth with no problems. The best part is that the shop is only 10 mins from my house. I pick it up on Wednesday!!!! They also asked if I wanted any acessories. I said there was a leather jacket, with the mesh by Suzuki that I liked. He pulled out the book and threw in the 200.00 jacket for free! Can't wait to get my new bike!! Of course I will be riding up and down my drive way and around the block for a while.

Congrats Jean I have always had soft spot the Savages (S40).Im sure you will be very happy with it.

It's always fun to see the excitement in a new rider. Kudos to you and your husband for taking the MSF class. I'm sure you'll have many years of riding enjoyment.

I think it a great idea to go for the 650 when you are talking about a cruiser. I think anything below 650 in cruisers and you are likely to grow out of it sooner. That C40 is a nice bike. Honda also has a few good middle weight bikes, like the Shadow. Welcome to the community and keep us up to date on your choice. If you can, get us a picture when you bring your new toy home.

Great Stuff Jean, you have done well all round I'd say!

Now that the dealer has shown you he cares, remember to be loyal to him & service you bike there according to the manual. That way you may get a discount on other bits (like a windscreen?) as well....
