Ladies - Going from Suzuki 250 to sport bike?

#1 Unread post by mandyedwards »

Hey ladies,

I have had my license about 3 months now and own a 2000 Suzuki Marauder 250. I am considering moving to a more sport bike, probably a naked bike as I tend not to like the faring look. lol. I am 5'5 and 125lbs so height and weight of the bike are issues. I love how I can control my 250, it's light, weighted well however, I have to do about 5 km's on the highway to work and I am not comfortable getting it over 80km/h as it is really light in the sense that wind really moves it about. I am looking to move up in bikes and have never riden a sport bike so I want to make sure I consider both cruisers and sports when moving up. I am leaning towards naked bikes right now.. Here are my questions, and yes I know going and sitting on them is my best gauge.

1. What are my best options for naked or sport bikes? I have sat on both the honda 599 and sv 650 and liked both.

2. How uncomfortable are these bikes? I'm used to a cruiser and that leaning over position doesn't look too comfortable for communting let alone highway driving. What bikes are the least uncomfortable position wise?

3. What bike has the least throttle touchyness? I am concerned with moving up I am going to be uncomfortable with the extra horsepower, so the smoother the bike the better.

4. I am looking new and used so options for both would be ideal. And if used, i'd be looking at a bike that is quite reliable as I dont know much about maintence etc lol.

Thanks for your help!

I posted a response here... viewtopic.php?t=11000&start=10&postdays ... highlight=
I'm going to lock this thread here - not because we don't want it here, but because it's redundant and you will actually get more responses on the "New Rider" forum - even the ladies go there.

I'm shorter than you (5'2"), and most sports bikes are a bit tall for me - they feel too top heavy as well. But you may find a comfortable fit on some models since you're a bit taller than me. Good luck!! Don't get discouraged... you'll find the right bike!

Cheers,
