i just started last january but im just crazy enough to start on a 178bhp bike. it was stolen though after 4 months. but after 2 months, i got a 750 which has only somewhere around 140bhp but it's still fast and im very satisfied w/ it.

Hi Jen, Nice ride - Enjoy it! Alot of chopper accessories can be had online for relatively cheap - like from J&P Cycles and Northwestern Cycles for example.

You can make it look great for not 'too much' dough if you keep away from the big names in accessories (Like Kuryakyn and Arlen Ness) though you can even find deals on them sometimes. Paint shouldn't kill ya either. One of the beautiful things about older bikes is the lack of parts that need paint

Your bike has a nice torque curve - and that's what you are noticing pulling you away and rearing to go. Feel free to ignore sportbike goobers like Verm who have no idea what real torque is all about. To people who just don't know, it's all about the horsepower numbers. But what you and I (and tons of others know) is that V-Twin torque feels much better than Inline-4 horsepower. At any speed.

Grats on the new bike. I got a bunch of neat stuff from www.cruisercustomising.com for my cruiser (back when I had one). Most of it was just cosmetic stuff, but some of the things they have are PURTY. And you can set the website to only display stuff that'll fit on your bike. Which was very helpful in my newb state.

Anyway, since you want to learn ... The V-Twin makes its torque at about 1500 RPM - and sustains it to the top of the rev range.

You have to rev the snot out of a four to get it to put the same amount of twist to the ground.

and thanks for the explanation of torque. i thought torque relates to acceleration and hp relates to top speed.

I found you need to really sit down and think about what you want to do. If you just start ordering willy nilly, pretty soon you end up with 6 jackets, 3 helmets, 5 pairs of gloves... 3 different sets of grips, 4 sets of pegs, 3 different exhausts, all kinds of signals, mirrors, headlights etc etc. Haha, take your time and sort out a nice package... like REALLY take your time, make sure everything will fit your specific bike, then order it all at once (saves on shipping).

Or just order one peice at a time when you're sure of what you want.
