New Rubber....

I need new tires on my '05 Royal Star Tour Deluxe.

Front has over 15k on it (!) and rear only has about 6k but the dealership says I need new ones, front and back.

I'm a new rider and know *nothing* about tires (and very little about bikes). But I do know one thing - I *hate* the Bridgestones I'm riding on now. They are noisy and seem very slab like. I have no confidence in them around turns and accelerating out of them.

I'm not an overly aggressive rider but I do like getting on the gas around turns and I really like twisties (I could ride The Dragon all day long!) so I'm looking for a set of tires that will have more performance than I can get to. :)

I've heard various things about Metzlers, Dunlops and Avon Venoms - anyone have anything good or bad to say about those tires or any others they would recommend?

Metzeler makes a good high-mileage cruiser tire. My dad had one put on his C50 and likes it alot. I couldn't be happier with the Dunlop D220's on my Streak, though they're sport-touring tires so I'm not sure if they'll fit your bike. I've heard nothing but good stuff about Avons.

I just put a brand new set of venoms on my bike. That was what was on it before and I loved all 35,00 kms of wear I got out of them. They are a quiet tire as well.

A sport touring tire might be what your after, though good luck finding them in sizes to fit the royal star.

Im running metzler M1s and love them, though the M1 is a super sport tire. I have heard good things about metzlers touring and cruiser tires as well (IIRC Harley uses them as their OEM tires on some models)
