Bike cover allows wetness in?

#1 Unread post by buddhacide »

We had out first rainfall for a while last night since i bought my bike. When I went to use my bike today I noticed that the bike was quite wet underneith its cover. Is this normal? I know these covers are designed to let moisture out, but not in.

It could be condensation or humidity that crept in..

Ever sleep in a tent overnight? You get lots of condensation on the inside surface of the rainfly. Same thing happens with bike and car covers.

I imagine the process with bikes is the same as with cars.. keep the cover on when it's raining, but don't forget to take it off afterwards.

If you think the cover is seeping some scotchguard sprayed on it will help the water flow away instead of through, but it won't help at all with condensation.
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

Yup my bike gets wet under the cover too. If it is a good cover it should have vent holes to let the water evaporate. This is why you don't use a regular tarp. The tarp will just hold the moisture.

I'm using a Dowco Guardian cover btw.

Thats good then. It is ventilated to get rid of moisture, so I should be good.
