That was one of the things I missed when I moved back to Cali from the AZ. desert .flynrider wrote:Around here, open carry is legal for anyone but minors and felons. It's not unusual to see bikers with full holsters. I can imagine that someone from NY or MA might be alarmed at such a sight, but it's an everday thing around here.
Now when I travel long distances I always pack my snub nose in a shoulder holster . With just my vest on you cannot even tell it's there unless the wind were to blow my vest back . No permit to carry . Worse case scenario is that they will confiscate my gun . So much for my 2nd amendment rights

Why do I pack ? I call it real Social Security .

Concealed Carry
I have read these posts with great interest. While new to the world of motorcycles, I have had over 30 years as a Special Agent/Field Firearms Instructor and still carry to this day. I have a Concealed Hangun Permit in North Carolina, as does my wife who rides solo. It has occurred to us that if we wanted to carry our trusted .45 ACP's while riding, we would have to brush up on our left-hand shooting technique and buy a left hand shoulder holster or left hand crossdraw belt holster. If we were to get into a running gunfight on a motorcycle, through no fault of our own of course, our right hands would have to remain on the throttle. Weapon retention techniques off the motorcycle would also have to be upgraded to retain the handgun in a shoulder holster or crossdraw holster because you are, in effect, presenting the butt of the handgun to your adversary. If you do not have a Concealed Handgun Permit, you should consider carrying your handgun in/on your vehicle where it is not readily available, per North Carolina law. At last count, only the states of Illinois and Wisconsin do not trust their law-abiding citizens to carry concealed handguns, not to mention the PRK (Peoples' Republic of Kalifornia) where those who are not rich and famous without political connections have to jump through flaming hoops to own, much less carry, a handgun. And Shorts, if you elect to carry a 1911, the correct protocol nowadays in the law-enforcement and civilian arena is to to carry it in Condition One - Cocked and Locked. If carried in a holster that covers the trigger, it will not fire even if the thumb safety gets wiped off because the grip safety has to be depressed. Sorry if I have insulted your intelligence, it was not my intention. If I read between the lines of your posts, I might suspect that you are a member of the Armed Services. If so, thank you for your service. If you ever find your way to Pilot Mountain, NC, come see us and stay a while.

cause you never know when you might need to kill a person I suppose.....
The point of carrying a gun isnt to shoot and kill. For most people shooting is only in self defense and responsible shooters only shoot when their life is in danger. So, the main reason for using a gun is saving your own "o-ring", sadly your opponents death is a side effect.
Most "packers" or "carriers" have a good reason to carry. My old boss used to carry when he made the deposit at the end of the night, because he didnt wanna lose the 10-20 grand he carried everyday. my dad kept a 45 under the seat of his truck in a case and ammo in the glovebox. in case he felt like going to the range after work.

CCW
MO CCW is not much different than in other states. In fact it is a bit less restrictive where you can/cannot carry.
Anyway, I have carried for years and never ride without my weapon. My choice of carry is in an ankle holster. Carrying it there has never been a problem and being under my jeans and my chaps it is very secure. I use a nylon type holster with lots of velcro. I also use the calf strap for added support.
I do not plan on ever having to use it while riding, it is just there for when we are off the bike. It is peace of mind while in the motel at night.

worf, good input all around. My comment "is there any other way to carry a 1911?" was a sarcastic one. (Man, that's the 2nd sarcastic comment recently I seem to have miffed up and not made strong enough..hmm?)

I've been in training classes where folks prefer not to carry with their 1911 that way and it was easy to see the difference in 'being ready'. Anyhow much of that comment is directed towards the folks that are concerned (IMO: scared) to carry a 1911 in cond 1. (I'm not saying it isn't possible to become excellent at drawing racking taking aim and shooting, it's just a matter of more practice and muscle memory. For me and many, its more effective and easier to carry Cond 1). More than once though, the holster retention strap swiped the safety of OFF :rolling eyes:
snwbrdr has that correct. The point of shooting is to stop the threat, not necessarily to kill. Sometimes BGs reap what they sow, and then some. The point of carrying a gun isnt to shoot and kill. Gosh, I miss my guns.....

Next, Beretta with black grips & holster made by yours truly.

Colt CCO 9mm build last summer

Colt Oacp .45, last build, winter before moving here

On both the Colts, I've still got a list of 'To Dos'. I need to correct the sights on the Oacp. And I'm going to refinish both in black, probably Duracoat. I parked them both for now, so that'll do until I get around to refinishing. I'm also going to make holster for both. Right now the Uncle Mike's pictured at the top is the range holster, but I'm going for a high rise owb strong side for carry, similar to the Beretta setup.

This may be treadjacking...but why did Winchester...well repeating arms co. have to close up shop? I've been waiting to own a "rifleman's rifle" for quite some time and now that its looking like i might have the money...just trying to continue a proud tradition...that and that featherweight is just too nice...oh and if the closing wasnt bad enough...guess who shoots left...
oh and for those not into rifles...
