Neil Young's New Release is Great

If you've drifted away from Neil like I had, it is exciting to hear his new work "Living With War". It is a louder, guitar driven rock oriented album filled with a lot of disgust for chicken-hawk politicians. It is anti-war.. specifically anti Bush and anti Irag war and yet is pro-America and Pro-troops. This sums up the feelings - opinions I already had, but gives some music to hum along with in the car and on my motorcycle.

His music sounds as strong as he ever was able to muster and equals previous strong releases such as "Rust Never Sleeps" (and even the old album "Zuma") and does have a lot of similarity to his last album and film project, "Greendale"... which was itself about the reasons for homespun protest and alienation as Americans, while remaining true to the county's ideals and geniune concern for the nation.

Neil Young..... he's one of the old geezers who still has something important to say. I got to thinking.... that after Johnny Cash died.... I thought... well, there's Willie left, and Bob Dylan is still around, but then I thought Pete Seeger is still around, and then realized that Neil Young and a very small handfull of others would take their place.....as singers who matter and still have something important to say until the end.

No one kicks "O Ring" or makes political statements better than Neil Young. He's one of my all time favorites. I would love to see him in concert sometime!

Neil Young is just another whiny white guy who shoulda cashed in and shut up 40 years ago. If I have to hear about another thousand points of light", "what your good book said", or "Back in the days of" I swear I'm gonna stop wearing earplugs when I ride... man that guy's a loser. Even Cher makes better music and she's a nightmare no matter how you cut it.

No, it's just that the guy has milked a long-dead association with CSN to produce album after album, each of which only gets played by radio stations whose programming department consists of one guy who is too drunk to remember how bad the last album was. Then he gets lumped in with Bob Dylan. I'm not even Dylan and it pisses me off....hard to imagine how Bob deals with the disrespect.

So many of his albums are such a far cry from CSN that I think its unfair to say that he is milking that connection.
The only reason he doesn't get much air time on the radio is becuase he is not mainstream bullsheet that the stations regurgatate over and over and over.

I couldn't tell you how dylan feels about it, Im not dylan.

Neil Young and Crazy horse was some crazy awsome rock....

Cinnamon Girl is one of my favorite songs of all time.

I've been thinking about buying the Rust Never Sleeps DVD for a while.

You are nuts... they play that crapola all the time. Why do you think I hate it? Overplay city. If I listened to it one time, I might remember it fondly. Ten, I might think it overplayed. Countless thousands and he can die of gonorrhea and rot in hell.

What other connection does he have to milk? Buffalo Springfield?

Maybe if I was Canadian I'd have some... national pride or someting... and pretend to like him for that association... but I'm not so I don't have to.

Cinnamon Girl is a good tune if played by good musicians. Look up Type-O Negative's cover... a little rough but at least it shows spirit.

I am nuts but that is beside the point.

They might play four or five of the more popular songs over and over.
They do that to all bands. Wich is why I never listen to FM radio.

So neil young should die of gonorrhea and burn in hell becuase you listen to those same songs over and over that the giant corporate radio station decides to play all day. Turn off the radio.

Why does he need to milk any connection? He has plenty of talent and resources to get the job done on his own.

So if you were canadian you would pretend to like him? Do you often pretend to like things becuase of what location you are at? Maybe you should try being true to yourself, then maybe you would realize that you really do like neil young.

I will give the type o negative version a try.

I haven't willingly listened to broadcase radio in years. Haven't owned a TV in a decade or so. Mass media is not my thing. If I can't download it I'm not interested. Sadly, I don't control the radios in public spaces. Restaurants have radios and TVs without redily accessible controls. I don't like it but I've got to live with it. That's my burden... a burden made heavier by the likes of Young, Cher, Diamond, McCartney, and other... I don't know if you can call them burn-outs but "people whose moment, if it needed to exist at all, should have ended decades ago" covers it.

Resources he clearly has... just to have stayed alive this long must've taken some serious cash for top-notch bodyguards. Talent, on the other hand, is more subjective... perhaps... perhaps I can live with agreeing he has talent (at least in the abstract sense) so long as we also observe that he lacks the courtesy to hire a decent singer to demonstrate that talent. Those two facts cancel out though. Sort of like someone who could be a world class athlete except he eats too much and weighs 423 pounds. If he corrected the one you might see the other, but will it ever happen?

If I was Canadian there might be reason for me to pretend to like him... but I'm not so there isn't so I don't. I was trying to give Pete an out.

Type O Negative has a lot of good covers... they even make U2's Mysterious Ways sound good! That takes real talent. These Boots are Made for Walkin is another they've covered well. Their crowning achievement though was a medly of beatles tunes that was actually enjoyable. Talk about turning lemons into lemonaid! My helmet's off to them.
