HOnda 919 gas tank suction problem!?

#1 Unread post by Stephan 919 »

Hello,

I was recently envolved in an accident where my tank was replaced. I have noticed that since my repair, that after a drive when I open my gas tank, there is a major suction problem. I noticed this the first time I tried to get gas.

This problem was so bad that my gas cap would not open. I thought that it was actually broken. Only after a few days of meesing with it, did it finaly release with a loud SHAAALUNK sound.

I am in the process of getting it back to the repair shop, but I don't trust these guys anymore(for other issues, but I am stuck with them for this). I would like to know what this problem could be, and how it should be repaired first. I wouldn't want these guys to "jerry rigg" it and tell me something else.

I don't have much knowledge about this sort of thing and would appreciate any feedback. :frusty:

P.S. Is it possible for this problem to cause small dents in the gas tank. THere is no cosmetic evidence of any outside impact and the dents are very small around the curviture of the bikes tank. (under the wings were the meat the straight side)

THanks guys for your help.
Stephan

Whoever replaced your tank pinched the vent hose.

Replaced the tank on a R6 two weeks ago with the same problem. The customer noticed four small dents in the top of his tank and said when you popped the tank lid, it would hiss.

When the tank cannot vent, the fuel pump will suck it in.

If a shop did it, then I say you should be getting a new one out of the deal. Good luck!

MY GOD . . thanks a lot!! I will look into this and hopefully they honor the fact that they made a mistake and replace my tank.

Good luck with that. At least it will show if you should stay at this shop or find a better one.
