diez, he said the timing is mentally challenged - that means it is firing AFTER TDC, which hardly makes for any kind of a power stroke. Also, the exhaust valve opens shortly after BDC so that the piston can push out the burnt gases on its way up - if it doesn't open until just before TDC as Mr F150Genius says, then you have in essence another compression stroke which further robs the engine of any power it might have produced. Thankfully Mr F150Genius does not design engines for a living or we'd all be walking.

I see the problem now... I was just reading the quote in gummie's reply, not the original post.

Oh well... so much for trying to extract kernels of truth from that particular source of krap. Nobody can say I didn't try though!
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

MotoF150:

Its just stuck in my mind, why do I always see the big guys riding the small bikes, and the small guys riding the big bikes? Before my wife left me for a younger man, she always wanted to tag along with me on the back of my bike, but I never had the guts to tell her the reason why I own a bike is to get away from her, and I never had the guts to tell her that my bike couldn't handle the extra weight with her on the back. Before she left me, she lost a lot of weight and turned into a drop dead-knock out babe, I was going to buy a Harley and a tight leather outfit for her, wanting to show her off, I have a Harley Babe, never got the chance, she figured if I didn't want her when she was fat as a blimp, I wouldn't want her when she turned into a sexy babe either, yea i was embarressed to be seen with her, I was a bad husband and I didn't care, I learned a lot since then, whats in the heart is more important that what it looks like on the outside.

Wow. As a licensed mechanic let me say one thing moto you are an idiot. Liquid cooled engines while having more even cooling are still not the same temp all the way through. The direction of coolant flow in an engine > top to bottom or bottom to top will have an effect on engine tempature at certain locations ( hot spots). No matter what you do an engine is allways going to be hotter near the top of the cylinder head, cooling the top of the engine first helps to bring down the temp in the top of the head reducing pinging. Air cooled engines are usualy run slightly richer to aid in cooling ( liquid cooling = lower emissions) As for longevity, as long as the engines are never overheated it does not really matter what your cooling system is both engines will last. Now onto ignition timing - The reason you are an idiot moto, besides the fact that you are obviously prejudice against Harley riders is that you are spouting off about something that you have no idea about. Ignition timing is ALLWAYS before TDC (BTDC) you would be hard pressed to get an engine to run even firing the plugs at 0 degrees TDC. Firing the plug late (mentally challenged timing) results in more heat as the fuel is still burning as it exits the cylinder head and goes into the exaust. This also results in less power, more emissions and black smoke as the fuel is never completly burned in the cylinder. Please if you are going to post something as a fact be knoledgeable in the subject and spare yourself the ridicule

Something we've all been saying ever since he got here. Might be a moot point now anyway, I think he finally got banned after his last salvo against Harley riders.
