Might I suggest that when you get to Olds, you head west to Highway #22, proceed south to Cochrane and take hwy #1A to Cochrane.
We are all planning on taking this route already. Sev was just being lazy when he copied his google map :)
Actually, we're skipping 1A because we'll be rolling through there rather late at night... as in 11-12. Which isn't my ideal time to be riding a new (twisty) road. Especially in an area with a... fairly high deer population and 6-7 bikes to hit them with.

We're headed to the mountains in search of twisties, so we'll have all day Sat/Sun to find them.

Uhhhhhh, We're leaving Edmonton at 6:45, hoping to roll into Red Deer at 8:45 and screaming south at high speeds (relatively) from there.

I believe Mike is arranging a pub night for this coming Sat. If people cannot make it, I can look at stoppin in Calgary on my way home from Vancouver, I'd be more then willing to meet up with people then. I'll post more as plans are cemented.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

We've arrived safe and sound in Canmore, and all I have to say is the following:

1) Fun ride out here.
2) I'm "procreating" drunk!!!

BOOYAH

Pictures to follow later - after I find a USB cable.

Rye FTW!!

So the pub night was a success beyond Success. Bok BBQ'ed for us, and it was unbelievably good. The man knows his way around a kitchen. And Mrs. Bok is so nice, she has the same bike as Karatechick, but a '99.

TotalmotorcycleMike and his wife showed up, as well as Mashby, and I have to say that over all the night was amazingly fun. The Calgary Gang picked up on the unique brand of humor that we of Edmonton carry with us very rapidly, and I spent the whole night laughing, both at myself and the other guys.

It was exceptionally cool to finally put a face and voice to the names from the forum that I've been talking to for so many years. And Mashby has a cool accent, haha.

Once again, I find myself lacking a USB cable, but I'll post a bunch when I make it home from Vancouver.

Sounds like a great trip. The view (at least from the lake pic) must have been incredible.

The beginning of the trip to Canmore - July 14 06 - How many bikes can you put into a single car garage filled with ski and snowboard equipment, mountain bikes, shelving, a worktable, tons of recyclable bottles and cans...
Image

Answer: 7 bikes: Honda 599, Honda VFR, Honda VTX, Suz Marauder, Suz GSX750, Kawi KLR650, Kawi ZZR250
(a)Well we only had 7 bikes (b)It was late - 1:00 a.m. when we rolled in and (c)Everyone wanted to start drinking! :P

Hey, I just rolled into town at about 1 am on Tuesday morning. The friend I'm staying with has a kitten that takes a perverse pleasure in throwing itself claws spread wide at my head while I try to sleep, so I'm really tired this morning, despite it being almost nine.

The ride out here was... interesting, the Trans-Can is being twined through the mountains, so it took an extra two hours just to get here. Plus supper, and I was powering through the mountains. Would have been amazing beyond words if all the damn cars didn't get in the way.

I met up with my friend in Kamloops (about 2 hours late) and we had a wuick dinner, then forged on the 400km to Vancouver and his place.

I was basically riding solo for most of the trip, but between Golden and Revelstoke this guy on an older dual sport wearing a skullcap pulled in behind me. We rode along together (high speed passes, shooting twisties and making sure we stayed together the whole time). When we rolled into town he pulled up along side me and gave me a huge "biker" grin a thumbs up, and then took off lanesplitting up to the red lght. I like him, though I've never met him.

Other then that, not much is new, I'm still trying to recover from such a long ride in one day (for me). I really need to get a new seat.

OH I'd like to thank everyone that made the Canmore trip possible/enjoyable. Despite some mechanical failures I had a blast that weekend. Calgary Crew needs to make the trip up here to visit us Edmontonites.

Did they skip 2005? I see there is a 2006 599.

Yes, it was skipped in 2005 in North America, though it did go through a redesign in '06, it was still availible in the UK. Personally I like the '04 design better aesthetically speaking.

I have to thank Blues2Cruise for leading me on an amazing group ride today through Vancouver up to Whistler. She not only organised, but picked me up where I'm staying, and made sure I got home safe. ALL with a flat tire - my new hero.

DR_Bar and his friend also came along, though they spent most of the ride guarding my back from the crazy cagers around here. Man some of those guys are nuts, some "O Ring" in a white van cut into the middle of our formation because we weren't quick enough to complete a pass in the passing lane, almost taking out al our bikes in the process. We talked to the police who say he's going to be getting a ticket later, and we may need to appear in court. But I'll be in Edmonton by then again.

Regardless we're headed out again tomorrow, and hopefully to somewhere fun.
