So i finally found a dealer online who was supposed to carry this bike.. turns out when i called he told me they dont carry it because of california emission laws...................... is there anyway to get around this maybe pick the bike up in another state? he told me that they do carry the 650 though. some how this doesnt make sense to me..

There's really no easy way around the CA emissions laws. You can't just buy a new, non-compliant vehicle in a neighboring state and bring it back to CA. They won't let you register it. I don't know all of the details, but I seem to remember that a non-compliant vehicle had to have more than 7,500 miles on them before you could convert it to a CA registration.

I went to the CARB website, which lists the vehicle emissions certifications for every motor vehicle legal to sell in CA... the GT650 is there, but not the GT250 or GT250R. 
I would say that maybe they are planning to wait until 2007 (the certifications must be renewed every year, wouldn't make sense to do it for a half-season seller like a bike introduced in June) but the fact that they don't have the GT250 certified (even though it has been selling in the US for a few years) would imply they aren't bothering.

Anything is possible, given enough time and money.
By the time you got through the paperwork, actual modifications, inspections and testing, you could have bought a nice 'busa or ZX-14 with the money you spent.
The reason that Hyosung didn't do it was because it was expensive for the few thousand bikes they would sell. You want to go through it for one bike?

They already gimped the ignition in these bikes to meet US emission laws. If you "un-gimp" them, it brings a good deal of midrange power back. It deals with modifying some wiring to the CDI boxes...
It would cut power even more and raise costs to send them to California.

Yeah, all of the UK bikes are completely wimpified due to emissions. It was like what happened to US cars during the 70's with the new emissions laws and the oil shortage. You had 6.6L engines putting out 180hp...lol. Sad story.
