engine dying? need diagnostic help.

i got a problem on my bike that started happening this past 2 weeks...

sometimes (maybe 4 times inn 2 weeks), when i pull in or pull out the clutch, the engine just dies on me.

it's not the stalling kind of engine death, like when you start on 1st gear and pull out the clutch to early.

and like i said, it also happened when pulling in the clutch

it happened at 2nd or 3rd gear, at maybe around 25-35mph and it happened on my downshifts. i don't think it has ever happened on upshifts.

come to think of it, im pretty lucky that this problem hasn't shown up in the canyons, all of them are from city streets.

any ideas what's wrong?

my mechanic is in vacation at hawaii right now.

Maybe the kick stand switch is screwed up? Or the wiring for it.

If the switch was saying "gear down" when you released the clutch, the engine would die. If the switch was flakey or shorting or something you might have random failures when you released the clutch.

That's all I can think of.

It dies if you pull in the clutch sometimes. I can follow that.

But it also dies sometimes when you gear down and *release* (pull out is what you often make me do to my hair, but doesn't really apply to clutches) the clutch lever? So you gear down, are still moving at a decent speed, and it stalls? So the wheel locks up? Or does it bump-start itself? Or what?

Your idle speed could be set too low.....

Take the TRE off and see if it still does it.

yeah, i mean release the clutch. wheel doesn't lock, it doesn't bump start itself. power just fades and goes bye bye. so i push the start button to get it going again. thank god my bike is a not a kickstart.

RE: idle speed... that could be it. my noticed my idle is a little low, it's a teeny bit lower that 1K. i read it shoud be at least 1,100-1300K rpm.


i'll check the TRE too as well as the kickstand sensor.

Are you applying proper throttle when you downshift to match engine speed to wheel speed? Is the bike jerking when it dies after a downshift?

Have you tried removing the mentally challenged remover?

I'd be looking at that TRE as well. Something is screwing with your ignition and/or injection functions.

Course it is a brand new bike. Under warrenty. You could take it to the dealership and have them fix it for nothing. Unless that TRE voided your warrenty....

i don't blip my throttle when im coming from a full stop or if im slowing down to hit a car in front of me.

i remember it happening on those 2 occassions... stoping amd slowing down to avoid hitting a vehicle in front.

my speed hasn't drop too low so bike didn't jerk, the power just cuts off. it's weird.

i'll try the idle 1st if it will fix it.

If it is powering out and dying, I don't think your idle being too low is the issue. But I know things work differently in your world.....

hmmm... i guess i'll just have to bring it to my mechanic or the dealer.
