There has GOT to be another Kawasaki dealer somewhere nearby!

Also, find a Suzuki dealer and go check on the GS500, another great bike all around that we often recommend. It's forgiving, powerful, but not so powerful that it's difficult to manage.

Also, check your local classifieds and www.craigslist.com and see if you can find any of the bikes used. Save yourself a few $$!
2000 Kawasaki Ninja EX500R (Sold)
2006 Suzuki SV650S (Stolen 4/08, recovered 12/08, sold 3/09)
2004 Suzuki SV650S (Sold)

Being bikeless SUCKS!!!

I've got a 500 and it's plenty comfy, although the tank is pretty wide.

Honestly though even at 250 lbs the EX250 should propel you quite well. And as a commute bike (if you're trying to save some $$) you can't go wrong. With your size you'll still be able to hit close to 100mph is need be and you'll be getting probably 70mpg.
I don't find my tank too wide myself, but like he says you can't go wrong with either bike

With craigslist, you may want to try .org rather than .com. I typed in .com once (at work) and was greeted by adult material that had nothing to do with motorcycles.

I have to 2nd the GS500. I am 6'2" about 210 and it is a very comfortable bike for my size and also has a low enough seat height that my wife feels good riding it when she wants to.

Also for me, when i started looking into insurance for the bike, the GS500F was a whole lot cheaper than the Ninja 250R. I pay 234.00/year on the Suzuki vice 600+ for the Kawasaki.

Just a thought and hope you find something you really like.

Crio,

Thanks for the words.

It looks like the GS500 is going to be the bike for me. I just have to find...(insert loud trumpets here) "The Deal!". So far, no one seems really willing to budge from the $5200ish price.

BTW - I eluded to this 250 topic in another thread and have received some great responses there as well. The reason I duplicated the post is because the other thread/conversation was in regard to a magazine (of all things) and felt I would get better results under a more applicable thread.

I did end up going to the dealership at lunch and they will not have any 250's or 500's for the rest of the year. So they tried to push me in to an SV650 -- out the door at $6000.

I declined the offer.
around here sales of 250's are up 80% compared to last year so im sure thats probably close to sales jump you are seeing near you thus why no 250's. The dealer near me said they sell honda 250's (for some reason they cant sell the suzuki sv250 but the honda rebels are going like hotcakes) before they get to the showroom floor. I mysself have a honda shadow deluxe vlx which is 600cc but thats a little different than an sv650 as the 650 is quit a bit faster and bigger than mine and mine isnt a crotch rocket lol.

I went to the dealership today as well...took forever due to rush hour on the interstate.

For now I'm riding the enduro, but I'm kinda shopping around for something to move up to in a few months...

I think I've pretty much settled on a 599...beautiful bikes, and just about what I want...
