Freeway at night question.

Perhaps it goes without saying but I'll say it anyways: clear visor advisable.

thats what I do. Since I work 3rd shift I ride to work with my clear visor on and then for my trips home I put my tinted visor on since the sun is always out when I leave at 6:30am. well at least it is right now during this part of the driving "season" hehe.

Honestly there is like no traffic at that time of the morning. I am a mechanic and I have to travel between plants sometimes to get parts/work on other machinery outside of my normal machinery. Usually the only vehicles I ever see on the road are cops .

*edit btw I have been working 3rd for almost 2 years now just for a reference and I live in a town that is between 2 towns with 1 being over 1million people and one around 500,000 people.

Night riding can be some of the best riding Just use your bright lights and watch out for critters!

Mikeydude that sounds awesome, I eventually want to try some freeway riding at night as well. I think you've gotten some great advice here so far. Just give yourself plenty of space on the freeway should something go wrong. Heres an article of an unfortunate accident that happened here locally.

The Alameda County Coroner's office today identified the motorcyclist who died early Sunday morning in a six-car pileup in Hayward as Carlos Massa, 34, of San Jose.

Three other people involved in the crash were taken to a local hospital. One of them, a 24-year-old Fremont man, remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred about 2 a.m. Sunday when a 1998 Honda Passport, driven by the Fremont man, hit the center divider on Interstate 880 near Whipple Road in Hayward.

The Passport flipped, ejecting the driver, and landed in the center lane.

A BMW 325i going about 75 miles-per-hour hit the Passport. The BMW ended up on the right shoulder.

But the impact apparently pushed the Passport slightly into the slow lane, where a 2006 Ford F-250 going about 65 miles-an-hour hit it. The Ford stopped near the center divide.

The motorcycle then hit the Passport in the middle lane, and became embedded in it. Massa was thrown into the fast lane and later died.

A fifth car, a Lexus, then hit the Passport, followed by a 1992 Mercedes Benz.

All four lanes were blocked for nearly four hours as officials investigated and cleaned up the scene.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

I used to love riding at night. The air is cooler and the smells are different; just got to be really careful because your vision of the road and surrounding areas is not as good as in the daylight. Also have to watch for those animals that tend to hide during the day and roam around at night. I think that sometimes the cars actually see you better at night because your lights are more visible.

I just aimed my headlight down a little and use the brights on the freeways.

Bike headlights are usually not as bright as a car, so I don't get anyone flashing brights at me. Works great.

Go a little slower, make sure you have some reflective material on the back of your bike, or your jacket/helmet to make yourself stand out a little better.
