Dropped bike and it cracked the engine cover

So I dropped my bike when it was standing still at a stop light and it fell over.

I think I cracked round metal part--not covered by the fairings cracked and oil spilled out. What does this mean? Is this why the bike won't start and how do I fix it at what price? Oh!! And its parked on the corner a few blocks from my house. Its too heavy to push home so....what do I do? Thank YOU. Any help is wonderful

Update: I looked up an image of the engine cover--yup that's cracked. Fudge! Is that why the thing won't start? And is this something I can fix? Should I try to sell it? I was going to anyway, my folks are breathing down my neck already.

Sorry to hear about that.

Get a buddy with a truck or trailer, if not, just get a buddy to help you push it home. If that doesn't work, call a tow truck with a small flatbed.

Don't start the bike if it has drained oil through the crack. I'm not exactly sure on bikes, but if its like trucks, running the engine with low/no oil pressure is not good :lol:

Once you get it home you can assess it a little better and decide your next move.

you've cracked the side engine cover. you will need to replace it.

You will also want to very carefully inspect any components underneath that cover for any damage. If left side, then shift forks, shift shaft, rotor, etc.

If right side, then clutch plates

Yeah don't start the bike. It's not going to have enough oil and oil pressure to be able to lubricate all the internals and you'll end up siezing the engine.

The engine side covers should be pretty easy to replace. You'll need a new engine cover and probably a new gasket too.

What kind of bike do you have? It sucks that a small drop would do that kind of damage./

Its a Yamaha FZR 600.

Yup, just confirmed that the engine cover is broken. Not sure if I need a new gasket.

In general, you want to replace gaskets. Unless it specifically is a reuseable type that is designated specified to not need replacing - I'd replace it.

Replace the cover, gasket too (since you've got it off). Fill the oil, and I bet it will probably start. When you drop a bike, sometimes fuel flows down into the cylinders from the carbs. This causes the bike to be flooded. (too much gas, not enough air) By the time you get the cover replaced and fill the oil, it won't be flooded anymore. It usually only takes a few minutes to get the bike started, even if it is flooded.

I don't have any experience with repairs motorcycles (or any vehicle for that matter). Will this be over my head? Is it worth fixing? And if I were to sell this now, what would be a price you would expect? 1993 Yamaha FZR 600, 20000 miles but new high def lights+new front/back brakes.
