Does anyone know the laws regarding these lights, or similar aftermarket lights while riding? I know that the underbody lights on a car are illegal when driving, but what a bout a bike. I would think they make you more visable to other drivers at night.

Check this out --> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/7-COLOR- ... otohosting

It's a little more expensive, but looks better than anything else I've seen.

EDIT:
I found them a little cheaper (when including shipping) here --> http://www.nulime.com/7-Color-Changing- ... c3382.html

Extracted from NY Vehicle and Traffic law handbook:
41. Colored and flashing lights. The provisions of this subdivision
shall govern the affixing and display of lights on vehicles, other than
those lights required by law. 1. No light, other than a white light, and
no revolving, rotating, flashing, oscillating or constantly moving white
light shall be affixed to, or displayed on any vehicle except as
prescribed herein.
They go on to describe the colors of lights you are allowed to place on your vehicle if you are involed in the fire dept, law enforcement, or ambulance service. Even then, you aren't allowed to have them on unless you're currently performing such duties. :(

And I was getting myself psyched up to buy some. Maybe I will still get something, for the sake of showing it off at night in some parking lot... :|

Damn that actually looks kind of cool. Plus it's good for safety/visibility.

Texas Law

#28 Unread post by TxRider »

I know in my area of texas the law has always been that you can't have anything strobing or flashing, and they shouldn't be able to see the bulbs, but if your car has a natural GLOW about it......that's alright

I see bikes every now and then with the strobing spark plug lights..... but i think that's illegal

I've seen bikes with these lights. I will say that you have to do it right. Position the lights to create glow/shadow and light up interesting features on your bike and it can look good. You really have to put alot of thought into the placement though. Its not my personal cup of tea, but done well I think they do look good.

Alot of the kits are tiny LEDs that dont really cast any light, just light up...they don't look good. Go with a quality kit.

First of all, apologies for bumping this thread... I must correct myself. Motorcycles ARE allowed to have color accenting in NY. I went to biker night at a local bar where a few cruisers and a sport bike were showing off their effects. They told me that the police have never given them trouble about it. Figuring their advice wasn't good enough for me, I asked a police officer (who was patroling the area and stopped by to make sure the crowd was behaving... hey there was beer and a live band). The cop said he never heard of any law against that, but he recommended against getting anything that would flash.

Satisfied with the response from Binghamton's finest I bought and installed one of these: http://www.bikerhiway.com/index.php?mai ... ucts_id=38

Great company by the way. My package arrived in 2 days. After that I rode to see snakes on a motherf#$%#@ plane tonight and while I was at a light, a sheriff pulled up next to me and he couldn't care less... and then another squad car on the way home who went along on his merry way. Anyway, I'll post pics sometime this weekend. :)
